Although Xlapak is right downtown, it's easy to walk past it if you don't keep your eyes open. That would be a big mistake. This unpretentious but great restaurant really is that little genuine Playa joint you're looking for.

In Xlapak you sit and eat under the canopy of big jungle trees; open and airy, yet shady during the day; romantic and serene at night. The walls are decorated with genuine Mayan motifs, painted the old way with natural pigments, and the floor is covered with Mayan hieroglyphs.

Food wise Xlapak offers some of the best deals in town, and it gets even better with your Playa Deal Card! Breakfast is big and great value for money. With the lunch and dinner menu you get a choice of entrees, main courses and desserts, modestly priced based on what main course you choose (prices start at 49 pesos). Some featured entrees include chicken with chaya sauce, rice and mayan vegetable dish. Or, try the stuffed fish filet with seafood on cheese sauce, rice and vegetables. They also have a healthy vegetarian selection.

Even waiting for your food is fun at Xlapak, with the 5th Avenue parade going by outside. Their well stocked juice bar means real orange juice in your Screwdriver (or even better, go with the orange/pineapple mix) and only top shelf alcohol is used. The juice bar is also a popular daytime stop, with amazingly refreshing and huge juices, smoothies and yogurt drinks.

Xlapak is not only a restaurant. The owners Martin and Dieter have also created a cultural center of sorts. They have an on site Spanish school and an internet center. Xlapak has it all!

Modestly priced, great food and fresh juices in Mayan garden on 5th Avenue. Unpretentious and genuine.
