But I think we should keep working on the Turks and Caicos thing first. ![]() Hey Nancy- you are from BC right...do you Mike, he lives in Surrey, I went to high school with him... (reference to the 'I AM CANADIAN' commercial, just in case that beer you *didn't* drink did you in.)

When I was working at a Club Med we had this talk very frequently with plenty of Canadian guys, both Quebecois and Non-Quebec ones. |

The Question - Why are there so many Canadians on this Board?
Could the answer be? It is May 1 on the prairies and for all of last week the temperature was barely above freezing combined with a stiff North wind. It was freezing cold. And this morning snow on the ground. On days like this I go straight to the web cam. But May 1 has come and the web cam remains down. I will now turn the heat up and find a nature show on TV that shows a beach. Manitoban's pride themselves on being friendly and have "Friendly Manitoba" on our liscence plates. Jesus, A Prime Minister more than 25 years ago announced there was a cariabbean island to buy and the benifit to Canadians would be fantastic, he was thought of as being crazy. In hind site he was a visonary. Canada joining Mexico - crazy or visionary? |

Big Mike, Been to Belize many times. Quite different but several similarites too to PDC and the Mayan Riviera. Same beautiful water, great diving (off the Cayes) the beaches aren't quite as pretty and white as around PdC but still nice. I'm probably more familiar with Ambergris Caye than any although done the mainland thing a few times. Prices are about the same as far as retirement spots close to or on a nice beach. I just purchased in Playacar more as an investment because of the popularity of the area and (my own opinion) that appreciate rates will climb steadily over the next few years. Seems a lot of people are still a bit hesitant about Belize. I have not ruled out Belize as a retirement location but sort of using Playa as a "spring-board" into it -who knows what may be appealing in 5 years?Somewhere near a beach for certain. No doubt, PdC will always have a special spot in my heart and for now, It IS the place to be!

It was (and is) the Turks and Caicos islands...a few politicians in Canada have, since 1974, been trying to get them under our wing....no dice as of yet. It comes up in the news every so often; the Fifth Estate just had a show about it last week again. I for one am keeping my fingers crossed! I think it would be a perfect relationship! Easy to retire and travel there, they have great scuba diving, only 30,000 people, a burgeoning tourism industry, and they are now 'in the black' as far as being self sufficient....good deal!
