I, too, love Kabuki on 8th between 5th and the beach, but I, too, have noticed that it has been closed for a week or so. Made me sad that I never saw anyone in there, as in my opinion, they had the best sushi at the best price in town (great presentation, too). I will be very sad if they are closed for good.

We had a sampler plate with I think Ahi, Yellowtail, Squid and Shrimp.(The menu had many more choices). The crusted fish was some of the best I ever had. It was done in the fine Japanese bread crumb and served in small thin pieces. One of the problems we noticed with this place is the sterile look of thier outside seating (we dined inside). An awning with some plants and some decor would really spruce this place up. This was a bar before, and we orginally stopped to see how Al was coming along with his hotel plan and the bar, but he must have leased it out. We also hope this place stays in business because the food was very good, and we thought the prices were reasonable, but alas, we have learned in PDC not to get to accustomed to the same places. Here today...gone tomorrow.

Kabuki has not been closed any of the last few times I've walked by it, Heather. Just the night before last I saw people eating in there when I went by, in fact. As far as I know, they have not been closed for any particular period except for Tuesdays, which they post as their day off.

Dunno, but I have a question for you: is the dancing thing for real? Have some female guests right now who are looking for salsa dance partners...

Hola Steve. We do have salsa classes here, but only once a week and more of an intro to salsa. The more advanced students go to Mambo Cafe to take classes there. I think it is about $7 US per class and they can stay and practice afterwards. Wednesdays is when we go out with the students, so you might see us around Mambo one of these days....

I have been meaning to try the Kabuki restaurant, but I don't want to stop going to the one next door... I am afraid it will close and I like my Sushi!!!

Hasta pronto...

I actually did notice Kabuki closed on several nights during our stay at the playa maya and the one thing i noticed was that there was no one really ever there.

I am so glad to hear this. What probably happened is I walked there twice, both times on a Tuesday or something.

I walked past it about 50 times in the last 4 days, and it's been open every time. However, I have never seen a soul inside, except for an employee or two. Last night, I did see a pretty woman standing outside, apparently to lure in customers, but she was very shy and didn't say anything to anyone... just smiled.

I am officially in mourning!!! I am very sorry to say that the sushi place on 6th and 30th has closed. I am not sure if it was lack of business or another reason, but it is a petty. To me it was the best place in town...

Oh well, asi es la vida.

Just thought I'd mention that you can also get various Asian cuisines at a small little place in the Chedraui. I'm sure it's not the caliber of the two places you all mention, but we had a quick, cheap Teryaki Chicken there yesterday with rice and Asian vegies, and it was very good.

We tried Kabuki, on 8th between the beach and 5th, while visiting a few weeks ago and also found it to be very good. The service and presentation were especially good. They had a dish my brother-in-law loves; don't know what it's called, but it's kind of a vegetable omelet in a bowl, and he loved it. I had a tuna roll and some eel that were good. They seemed to have all the usual sushi stuff on their menu. The place was never very busy when we walked by, so if you want to try it, better do it soon or it will also go away.

Was it made with octopus? If so, it could be okonomiyaki, one of my faves, and something usually eaten straight off the grill right at your table (if you cook it yourself) or at the bar (where the master does it for you).

Do they have Hamachi in PDC? It is my favorite sushi... used to eat it in Cali all the time but they don't have it in Europe (yellowtail).
