Not worth the trouble...
I just came back from the Royal, and if you really want you can ask room service and pack everything you order onto a small cooler bag, and you can also request as many beer bottles you want through the same room service.
However, food in Mexico is soooo cheap that is really kinda foolish to walk all day in the heat of Mexico carrying a six pack plus food just to save 10 bucks. You are on vacation, relax and enjoy!
