Just Back - ASP and Secrets Capri - Quick Reviews

Well our 2 week vaction is over.

Ok - I'm not into big reviews so I am just going to be summing up the differences of Aventura and Secrets.

Of course I'll try to answer any questions you may have.

This was our 10 year wedding anniversary. I decided to split our vacation up by doing 2 resorts as I found 2 weeks at one resort last year was to long.

The first week was spent at Aventura Spa Palace...this was our third visit to this great resort in as many years.

Not much has changed since last year...except they have finished the interlocking around the man-made lagoon. The food was the same....nothing great but you never go hungry Weather was good with a few afternoon quick showers. The pool as always is the best thing about this resort...big! We enjoyed our daily game of volleyball as well as meeting new people around the pool bar.

Top Marks for :

Pool
Palm trees
location
mood

Low marks for:
Food
Non Air-Conditioned restaurnts/main looby for shows

Now on to Secrets - This was our first visit and probably our last.

First off - the food is very good! The attention to detail is high. We enjoyed many excellent meals and not many bad ones. They even have Angus burgers in the ocean front restaurant.

Now the next reviews are my own - so don't take offence.

The resort is small compared to Aventura.... and is very quiet!!!! Forget about night life! The so-called Disco (Desires) is nothing more then a 30x30 ft. room that shows only the baseball or football games....one night a band was playing and they still didnt shut off the football game! I love sports but please...enjoy the music. The one night we were in there when they played music we were one of 2 couples.....

The nightly shows are your tipical resort "cheesy" shows....we never watched one.

On our last day it rained most of the day......the resort leaked and the ceiling was failing apart - this with a resort that is less then a year old! Talk about poor construction.

Anyway...I don't mean to bash the hell of the resort but we found it does not compare to Aventura. The resort is also very tomb like....not many plants within it's wall and the landscaping is very sparse...I will assume this will change as the few trees it has matures...but they nees to add more plants inside.

On a positive note...the drinks were very good with high shelf booze...they even know how to make a great dirty Martini. One thing my wife didn't like was the reusing of glasses for drinks....the bartenders would only scrub the glasses in a glass scruber with water...no soap they we could see.....Aventura uses single use plastic cups.

During the day if you like elevator music - you'll enjoy the music. They DO NOT play any music by the pool...well maybe for 35 mins during the water arobics....other then that nothing. I spoke to one of the staff and said they are not allowed to play music as the are told to keep things quiet. I will assume some people will ike this but most don't.

Top Marks for :

Drinks
Food

Low Marks for:

To Quiet
Scenery
Small
Slow service in some restaurnts/staff not as friendly as Aventura
Thin room walls....Use your imagination for heard sounds.

Once again...these are our own opinions....please don't sent me hate mail. :p

Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers
Rob.

Rob:

Just want to say for taking the time to give a brief review of the places you stayed. I would hope no one will send you "hate mail" for voicing your opinion of the resorts!! How else are other folk to get a feel for these resorts? There are so many!

Sounds like at least 1/2 of your vacation was at a "good" place!!

Happy 10th Anniversary!!!

Gerald,

Well on this visit it's not a fair comparison since we had the Executive Suite @ ASP.....but going from memory...I would say they are very comparable.

ASP has a 2 person jacuzzi - SC was a single bath tub jacuzzi.

SC has a long narrow room - ASP was more wide but shorter.

ASP had alcohol dispensers in the room - SC does not.

ASP uses a safe with a key - SC uses an electronic safe

SC has a 4 post bed - ASP does not - Both beds are equally hard.

ASP has a larger shower then SC

SC has a larger channel choice for TV - Including Playboy on Saturday evening.

ASP has hammock's on the balcony - larger balcony then SC

Both decor's are nice

But ASP is for us.....

Cheers
