My fiance and I are staying at the Royal Hideaway at the end of October and are wondering if others have stayed there and what their experiences were like. We have never been to the area so are interested in people's advice on what things we shouldn't miss. Also, while we are there we hope to go deep sea fishing - but since there will only be the two of us we are worried it might be cost prohibitive. Any suggestions? Any feedback is appreciated - thanks!

Hi!
Check out the Mundo Maya department on this site, and also Things to Do for tips on what to do in the area.

In our fishing article in the Sports section we have a link to boats you can charter through PlayaInfo. There are boats in different price levels and hopefully you'll find one that works for you. Welcome to book it with us - one less thing to arrange.

Royal Hideaway is one of the nicest resorts here - I think you'll like it. But please don't miss the chance to visit the actual town of Playa del Carmen. It's well worth the 5 minute taxi ride.

My wife and I stayed at the Royal Hideaway
for 5 nights in mid-August. Fantastic!
Only 200 rooms so you never got that crowded
feeling. Many times wondered where everyone
was.

Quiet and romantic. Excellent choice of food
all a la carte, except for breakfast at one
restaurant. No fighting buffet lines, which
I hear can be common at some of the all-
inclusive resorts here.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Expensive
but an excellent resort.

Royal Hideaway is fantastic. We spent our honeymoon there in Sept. 2001, and are planning to return ASAP. The people, food, and anything else you can mention are top of the line. You should take the trip to Tulum and Xel-ha, as well as scuba diving in Cozumel. Have a great time.
