Pics of the black henna tattoo I got in PDC
Here's a couple pics of my black henna tattoo, during and after. Man do I regret doing that. But at least the corticosteroid cream I was prescribed is working pretty well. The pic on the right is a day or two after the peak of the worst of the reaction. I was lucky that we caught it early after having read information about black henna tattoos when we got back to the States. We scrubbed about 2/3 of it off with alcohol wipes, but the remainder still reacted strongly as you can see below. Feels just like poison ivy. Hopefully there won't be any lifelong lingering effects.

Black Henna Dealers
man, that thing on your arm sux! the "Secretaria de salud" or heatlh department i dont know, is giving certificates to the tattoo and piercing shops that works with a high standard of salubrity and ethic, so there is no risk to get aids or other diseases. But there is nothing to regularize these Black Henna "dealers" coz we cannot call "artist" those who use PPD

Thanks for the warning. Due to my ignorance -- I allowed my 10 year old daughter get a henna tattoo this summer in Playa. I showed her this info and the pics and I know she will not insisit on getting one this year when we return.
I just turned 46 and have decided that life is way too short --- I have always wanted a tattoo but have been afraid of passing out - not so much from the pain but the sound --- I plan to go the end of this month - wish me and the artist luck. |

Thanks for the input and support - I'll let you know if I maintain some of my dignity or not! Thinking that it might be nice if they could give you laughing gas or several shots of tequila beforehand. But, like they say - no pain - no gain.

Alcohol is discouraged before a tattoo. It thins your blood. Most reputable artist won't work on you if they suspect you've been drinking. You have to make it your post-ink reward. Like when you're laying back in the chair and you need to go to your happy place, think of a shot of Don Julio at La Ranita.
