Cancun Airport
Planning trip in the last week of March. I've heard bad stories about the congestion and time getting through the airport. A friend told me that it took her 2 hours to get through at the end of September. Anyone else have trouble ??

It's really a crap shoot... we've made it through in under a half hour total and other times it's taken almost 2 hours. It all depends on the time of your arrival and a myriad of other things... it's Mexico so you have to be of the mind set that things happen on their own time... just go with the flow. Typically, customs isn't the hold up... but rather immigration.

It took us about 1.5 hrs in August, 99% of that time being the line for immigration. Our plane arrived on a Sunday morning around 10 am 'ish - and when we got through, the line behind us had nearly tripled, so I felt sorry for those folks.
One thing I didn't understand - and I haven't found the answer (if one exists !) in this forum: As we waited in line in immigrations, a group or another plane would enter, and the immigration / airport people would put them through a new line, so they were basically whisked through with little wait at all. Either way, with the tons of people who all arrived at once, they did a pretty damn good job of getting people in and out. Whatever happens, don't be frustrated - you're on vacation.... |

The end of Sept. we were the only plane in the charter terminal and the first ones off our plane so we were out in 20 min. In the past few years we have found the longest lines in the main terminal but still never took longer than 1.5 hours.

Cancun Airport
We were there first week in October and were off the plane and in the cab to Playa in 25 minutes. Luggage took 10 minutes to get and since every customs booth was open we were on our way 15 minutes after luggage pickup, YMMV

In my experience, and the experience of my favorite driver to pick me up, the day of the week play the biggest factor. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are the best (slowest) days. Friday through Sunday are the worst. One word of advice... do not try to arrive around 9am on Saturday. We waited nearly 3 hours.
