I can't imagine the rooms will lock from the outside patio door, but I can't say for sure. I always lock my laptop in my suitcase, with a lock ON the suitcase and then store it in the closet. I tend to doubt someone is going to try to walk out of my room with a big suitcase just to see what might be inside. I've done this for years and never a problem!
