If you're a frequent visitor to Playa, you must know some of the local dogs. The ones that escort you back to your hotel room? Patiently wait for you at your door, will eat anything you give them? Many of these dogs are abandoned (Playa is a transient community) and link up with tourists to get by (not unlike many locals) Due to recent leash laws in Playa, these former beach dogs need real homes as many have been picked up never to be seen again. Some applaud this, but this is a laid back beach town and the dogs were around before the leash laws, so it's quite sad that they suffer due to Playa's growth and tourism. Many have disappeared...have you noticed?

Steve and Terri of La Lavanderia and I have been talking about this for months now. They have taken in several strays already (word spread in the doggy community, so the persistent ones got through the door). They could use help with vet expenses. As an animal lover, I have been willing to donate time and money to this cause, but we need some help getting started - the local vet has offered a bulk rate discount on surgery (spaying and neutering).

A good start would be vet care, flea collars, etc. Any suggestions on how to get started? Would you like to help us? Do you have any supplies to donate? Time? Money? Expertise? Help!
