Traci ---- like Dana, I experienced my first back pain after the birth of my daughter. With all the well wishers and experienced back pain sufferers in the group you will have much support. Enjoy your trip to Playa and soak up all of the positive energy that is there for the taking. I think if we could all visit Playa at least every other month it would assist in alleviating many if not all of out health problems. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I absolutely agree with the stretches and excercises to help relieve the pain. It has worked wonders for me. Anything is better than having to take the narcotics. I have a massage every two weeks and the therapist works wonders with helping me strengthen the back muscles for support.
I have a lot of teachers in my family, God bless you every one. |

Whew!
I MADE IT!
It is 4 and those sweet darlin's are GONE!!! Thanks so much for all of the responses and well-wishes, and prayers especially! I know for a fact the positive energy I got from all of you today REALLY did help :p ! You are all awesome! The spinal surgeon I saw last week wants me to do 3 days of phys. therapy just to "re-learn" the excercises the therapist taught me after my skiing accident. I am not going to go(no time), plus I remember the excercises, plus hubby bought me one of those big balls! Dana, you are right, those are great! So now I just have to make my butt start doing the excercises , I know it can only help, and hey, It'll help with the bathing suit thing in a couple of weeks! THANKS AGAIN!! THIS IS SUCH A GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE !Traci |

NOT MEDICAL ADVICE!!! - but it has helped me.
About 6 months ago, I purchased an "inversion table" - a device that helps you hang upsidedown by your ankles. My back problems were not a serious as some who have posted and warnings with the table said some back problems could be made worse by hanging upside down. All that said, it helped me a gread deal and I now hang upsidedown every day. You can search the web for these devices if you're interested or I would be happy to give more information. I also agree with the stretching and strengthening advice. My best wishes to all with back problems that you improve and become pain free. BW |

Not medical advise, just a observation.
I can relate to the back pain. My problems started in high school (anceint history). My sophmore year was, and is still a blur from muscle relaxers and pain meds. I tried everything (except surgey). I finally went to a pyhsical therapist and started doing exercises. I am an automotive technician (lots of heavy work) for over 28 years. I still have occasional pain and spasms, but I learned over time that laying around actually made it worse. I have friends who have had surgey with excellent results, but we all agree, laying around makes it worse. Walking seems to be one exercise that is a great starting point.
Best of Luck, I hope you feel better soon, Shark |

I tell hubby and doc I feel like I need to be "stretched" all of the time! Every now and then I put my arms around hubby's neck and then just "hang" there for a few secs. That feels awesome, my back pops all the way down!
BK, I had the injections in June(3 in 3 weeks), and they did nothing for me except hurt and cost me a fortune$$$! But, it was a step before surgery and I want to post-pone that for as long as possible!!BW, I think the hanging upside down thing sounds great! Thanks everyone , I am off to get ready to face those hormonal-masses yet again Like I said yest. tho...as long as I can jump here every now and then for a fix, I think I'll be fine :p THANKS GUYS!!!!!! Traci Look at that TIMER will ya'????? WOO!HOO!!!

Traci...back pain has got to be the worst! We hope you're feeling better soon. You and all the other teaching pros out there have a tough job, and you have my respect and admiration. My 19 year old son is in his second year at SUNY with a major in education and minors in Spanish and history. He plans to teach when he graduates. I hope the benefit package and the respect levels improve for all of you, you deserve it! Now, math was never my forte, but you being a math teacher and all...here's
a simple equation that I know works evertime! Playa+friends+tequila+beach+sun+relaxation= |
