A question for the ex-pats...
Hi, everyone. I'm a writer, based in Los Angeles, who's doing some research on non-Mexican's who've taken the plunge and settled down (temporarily or permanently) in Mexico and more specifically, the Yucatan coast. So to all you Americans, Canadians, Europeans, Asians, Everyone, I have just a few questions for you. Thanks to all those who reply in this forum or directly to my email at: sungdc@yahoo.com
1) In deciding to relocate in Mexico, was there something about your home country or previous living situation that you were "fed up" with? 2) Did you move to Mexico with a goal? What was it? OR, did you happen upon Playa del Carmen by chance and fall in love and decide to stay in the moment. 3) What's been the most frustrating living adjustment for you? 4) What are some of the things in your new home that make the move worthwhile? 5) Do you consider yourself to be pretty much the same person in a new environment or are you markedly different from the person you were before your move? 6) What was your previous job and what are you doing now? Is it more or less fulfilling? More, I hope! That's it, everyone. I wish I was there with you!! I've been to PDC and up and down the Yucatan coast several times, yet some how I always manage to find my way home... --Sung Last edited by 2scoop; 11-15-2004 at 08:27 PM.. |

Hi, everyone. Thanks for the responses so far. I truly
appreciate it. In retrospect, however, I think I should have set up my previous post more clearly. I guess it seemed a bit out of place for me to ask so many questions without much explanation. Here goes. Basically, I'm in the process of researching a fictional project. It is NOT a travel guide or anything like that. The last thing I want to do is ruin somebody's secret hidaway or personal paradise! What I do know, is that one element of the story involves ex-pats just like you! With your input, I wanted to have my character motivations as true to life as possible. I hate reading a book or watching some show/movie where characters act completely unreal. I figured if I had some first hand accounts, I'd already be a step ahead of the game. Also, I want to reassure you that I'm NOT going to be writing your personal life story and any information related to me will be held in the strictest confidence. In fact, I tried to keep my questions as semi-vague as possible so as not to be too intrusive. Furthermore, any names of people, cities, businesses, etc will be changed. I hope this helps and thanks again. If you have time to fill out the mini-survey above, please email me at: sungdc@yahoo.com Cheers! --Sung |
