dining list
The road to Casa Cenote is the turnoff for Tankah Tres and is right to the north of the entrance to Freedom Paradise. Blue Sky is also there; is a bit pricey and the service was not great but the food was excellent. Texas bar-be-que on Sunday at Casa Cenote was good! The food at Gringo Dave's in Tulum was the worst we've eaten in the area (that includes PDC). Pancho's in PDC and Blue Lobster were excellent a few weeks ago.

Just returned from Playa & will do a full trip report when time allows, but for now just let me say I went to some great restaurants for the first time: AJUA! on Calle 4 was our favorite! Lots of fun, great ambience & food, excellent service. Cannot speak too highly of this place!!
Also on Calle 4 is Las Brisas, a Mayan family owns it. We had a fantastic seafood platter fo 2 people ( lobster, shrimp, fish filet Grouper no doubt, octopus & calamari) for $270 pesos. It was delicious! More later, Fins |

That map would come from Laura...or MapChick as she is affectionately known.
Click here to buy one of her maps...all you'll ever need if you want to properly navigate Playa or the Mayan Riviera. |

we'll be first-time visiors to Playa Del Carmen in a few weeks----somewhat concerned about where not to eat, how vegetables etc are washed, don't want to spend any precious vacation days with Montezumas Revenge....any thoughts on this?

There is a whole lot of info on places to eat on this site.
Check out the "changarros & mas" forum thread or look through peoples trip reports. People asked me the same questions before our trip to playa and my answer was " its not like it used to be many years ago!" Of course, we always drank bottled water. The ice in "most" places is purified now. We didn't have any problems with veggies, etc.... You have to remember that Playa depends on its tourists and the last thing they want is people getting sick. They've improved on a lot of those things. |

The restaurant list is quite large. We made a few a couple of weeks ago.
One place not to miss is Carboncitos. Great place for chips and salsa (many flavors) and tacos!!! (Went like 4-5 times when there. The food is great and the staff (Alex, Jesus, and Elvis) are fabulous!!!!! By the way, perfect internet cafe next door and very cheap. Most we paid was 8 pesos for about 15-20 minutes. Felt Ajua was not as good as 2 years ago. Just so-so and very expensive!!! Alux, the cave, is neat to see. Had drinks and appetizer (just okay). Laura's map comments said the atmosphere is great but the food so-so and I fully agree!! There is also a Cuban restaurant in the new shopping area by Carlos and Charlies,I think it is La Bodeguita Del Medio. Fabulous food. One of the best dinners we had while there! Have fun on the trip, I am soooooo wishing I was there and not waiting for another snowstorm .
