ASP non-smoking rooms location

Hello, I want to request a non-smoking room at ASP when we arrive, but I'm concerned that these may be the rooms furthest from the pool because there is so little of these available (120). Has anybody requested a non-smoking room before or know of the location of these at ASP?

Are they grouped together in one section of the resort?

Thanks,
Greg

We will be there from Dec 28 - Jan 4. First time to PDC, but have done Mexico many times before. Looking forward to the trip.

Thanks Mark, that would be great! Just trying to plan my strategy when we check in. If I ask for a non-smoking room I don't want to be put at the far end of the resort, if that's where they are located.

Second time to ASP, must be an okay place then? I've over researched the place and really liked the idea of not having to eat at a buffet for 3 meals a day.

First time to an AI, as when we go on vacation we really like to experience the local restaurants. We still will probably do dinner in PDC a few nights.

The Spa thing is a also a big plus for my wife.

Thanks,
Greg

Hey Greg.. We loved the ASP... We also know a number of people who have also been more than once and plan to go back... The facilities of the resort are really nice.. The staff are very friendly and provide great service.. The two person hot tub in each room is also a nice bonus.. The spa is amazing.. You need to pay for the actual spa treatments (massages etc), but there are a bunch of spots in the spa that are free to use for guests.. There is a good size indoor gym (and an outdoor one).. There is an indoor pool and bar in the spa.. There are hot tubs and cold plunge tub.. There are saunas, steam rooms, hydrotherapy rooms.. All this is included with your stay.. Apparently there is also a disco now which was not there on our last trip.. The only slightly negative was some of the food was a bit bland compared what we are used to at home, but from what I can tell this is a common complaint of many of the AIs in Mexico.. I had no problem with the food and was stuffed the entire time, it's just different than home and I am not real picky about my food..

One bonus is the free use of other Palace resort.. There is pretty good snorkeling at the Xpu-Ha palace, so we will likely spend a day there to snorkel and making use of the bars, restaurants and the beautiful beach. We did this last trip and had a nice time there.. Of course, we also made it into PDC which I am sure we will do again as well.

I'll let you know what I find out about the rooms... Later...
Mark...

Hey Greg.. Sorry for the delay in replying.. I was on a business trip shortly after returning so it has been a little hectic here... The ASP was great as normal.. There were some minor changes since our last visit there, but nothing too significant.. They have put interlocking stone steps around the lagoons though which is a nice touch.. Please feel free to ask any last minute questions before you go.. I will have better computer access now..

With respect to your smoking room question, here's the best I can offer you.. I specifically asked at both the north and south lobbies, regarding smoking and nonsmoking rooms at the resort. The answer I got was the same at both. They both told me that there are NO nonsmoking rooms at the ASP.. Now, both the rooms we and our friends were in had ashtrays.. But I could not detect any type of smoke odour in either room.. And we are both fairly sensative to the smell..

If it were me, I would simply take the room they offer, and then if you have any concern with it, politely enquire whether it possible to switch rooms.. The room we had this year actually met none of our advance requests (LOL), but once we settled in, we really had no issue with it and stayed there no problem..

Again, let me know if you have any questions.. have a great time!

Mark...

Thanks Mark for checking out the rooms.

Looks like we are all set. As you said, I'm not going to worry about the room until I get there and then if I'm not happy with the first one, ask to be moved.

Greg

I might be wrong Tim, but I thought I read that smoking was permitted only on patio and outdoor areas of restraunts.

Smoking areas and non-smoking areas are both available in all restaurants.

Smoking policy at ASP

While we were there from 12/30/04 to 01/13/05,there was no smoking allowed At La Huerta and La Hacienda. The only indoor restaurants that allowed smoking were Ventanas and Mo Mo No Hana. If you wanted to smoke at El Greco or Mundaca you were seated outside on the deck. The smoking policy seems to change at will I think depending on the number of Europeans that are there at any given time, in my opinion.
