Ibero* Paraiso Maya news
Hi: Just wanted to ask if anyone has been to the Maya yet? I have a reservation at the Tucan 12/4 and emailed in my room request. When Felliciana responded, she offered to upgrade us no charge to the Maya. Apparently it will be open by the 4th. What a dilema! It looks gorgeous has more to offer but we love the location of the Tucan not to mention the monkeys and other creatures. One of my concerns is that I have read from others who have stayed at the Lindo that the beach is not as nice as in Playacar. Any feedback would be great! I need to get back to Feliciana soon. Thanks!

I've stayed at the Ib* Paraiso Del Mar (which shares the same beach with Ib* Maya) for two years in a row. I did the day-visit to Ib* Tucan and the beach at Tucan far surpasses the beach at the Ib* Paraiso Del Mar/Beach/Lindo/Maya.

The beach is definitely nicer at the Tucan. And know that the Maya will JUST have opened so you may be setting yourself up for some "service" related issues that are bound to happen whenever a new hotel opens. That would be MY concern more so than the beach situation.

You're so right Shammy, Another good point. I've all but decided to stay at the Tucan. My husband does like the idea of "A never slept in bed"
I was wondering if the pool which soiunds really nice, would be heated? I do think the pool is a bit cold in December at the Tucan. |

You can't go wrong at the Tucan. We've stayed there and at the Lindo, and although we loved the restaurants at the Lindo, the Tucan is much more intimate, it has the animals, and the beach is fantastic. We also loved the Playacar location - so easy to get into PDC.
Have fun!! |

Looks like I'm in the minority, but I'd take it! The Maya is going to be a much more luxurious, fancy resort, and I'd jump at the opportunity to get in at Tucan prices--even knowing that there may be startup issues. Iberostar does a great job, and they already have a base of well-trained staff in the area, so the risk would be acceptable to me.
I think it really depends on what you're looking for. If you want a small, jungle-y resort with a great beach near PDC, you should probably stick with the Tucan. If you want pampering, I'd take advantage of this great opportunity to try the Maya. |

Yeah, I'd have to sit and think long and hard about whether I'd take the Maya or not too. It's a great opportunity to stay at a much more expensive resort for a much smaller price. The Maya is pricing out even higher than the Lindo.
But.....when I say just opened, I mean JUST OPENED! Last I heard, the scheduled opening date was 12/3 so no matter how good the IB*'s are when they open (and they ARE one of the better chains when it comes to pulling their s**t together), I would still expect some "issues". Maybe nothing big, maybe just little things you can overlook, so that complicates the decision even more. Guess you'll have to weigh your pros and cons! BTW...no, the pools will not be heated. Only the Secrets resorts have heated pools and even then, only HALF the pool is heated. |

From what I could see, it's looks to be very nice. So much so, that our next trip back, we are headed to the Maya. And trust me.. the pools were not heated! LOL |
