El Oasis Closed for remodeling!

We just attempted to go to El Oasis for lunch and it is closed for remodeling! They had it all torn apart with jack hammers and it looks like a major overhaul, so I have no idea when it will reopen. Could be tomorrow, but I doubt it, could be next week, could be next month. It's hard to tell. Anyway, if you were planning on shrimp tacos for Thanksgiving dinner, I think you will be out of luck.

omygosh!

Oh Noooo! I hope they're open by Christmas! We ate there less than 2 weeks ago, and there was no sign that anything was different.
Is their location on the highway still open?

I sure hope Jaime's got the place open over the holidaze. I've been waiting all year to have pulpo en su tinta again. I will be very sad if I can't have it while I'm there.

Aarrgghhh!! We never made it there last year and it was tops on this year's list to try their shrimp tacos!
So, in the likely event that they won't be open within the next couple of weeks, where's everyone's next favorite option for shrimp tacos?
I know there was a recent thread regarding the virtues of whether fried or sauteed shrimp- just, where's your next "best"? (No matter how they are prepared?)

Denise, it kinda looks like Fallujah right now! It looks like a complete gutting of the building. If it's open before the holidays they will really be doing something. We were there on Sunday, thankfully. Wish I would have known then, I would have ordered a few more if I would have known they would be my last ones! If I think of it tomorrow I will post a photo of the "remodel" project.

We came back from Akumal today thinking we would hold our hunger pains so we could load up on a boat load of shrimp tacos at El Oasis upon our arrival back in Playa. You can imagine how distraught we were to see the remodel sign up! We all just walked around dumbfounded for about 10 minutes back to Royal Palms. I did some frantic searching on playa.info knowing I had better come up with a damn good alternative to help alleviate everyones' pain! Solution: a wonderful dinner at La Tarraya.

Okay, maybe my short term memory loss isn't as bad as I thought and I did recently see JAH'S restaurant recommendations with the following note:

"El Oasis – On 12th Street between 5th and 10th Aves, this a good place to get those shrimp tacos for 10 pesos each – every bit as good as those at La Floresta. There is also a branch out on the highway north of La Floresta."

So, is that location (out on the highway) still there?

Thanks for posting more details Manitou. Sounds like good news for El Oasis... though perhaps not such good news for us... keeping my fingers crossed that the remodeling is complete by the holidays... but I definitely won't bet on it. La Tarraya is a great place to eat too. Let us know if you try any other new places. Hope you're having a great time! Happy Thanksgiving to you and Cheryl and Hannah!
