I remember when you could see those "bottle topped walls" on 5th Ave beginning around Calle 12. Of course it was pretty much jungle and dirt roads after passing where the Porto Real now stands. Things are a lot better than they used to be, but there is still crime everywhere.

Some of the things tourists do amaze me. Like counting out large sums of cash after leaving an ATM or back packs and purses left unattended. Be savvy and don't make yourself a target.
