Hi, Barb
I note you hail from Ottawa. As it happens i have a brother-in-law who lives there and wants to come and visit us in Cozumel. He seems to be coming up empty on affordable ways to fly either to CUN or COZ. What airlines or charters do you use or are you in the same boat of having to pay through the nose most times of the year you come except the fall. Any help would be much appreciated by not only my brother in law but me as well since he's bugging me unrelently to come up with something for him, the Big Baby. Thanks in advance for any input. Hi Carey. I like your site!
Our latest trip was in March '01. We flew with Northwestern through Detroit. The Ottawa-Detroit leg was a small, fairly noisy turboprop Saab, but it was pretty fast. We overnighted at an airport hotel: there are lots of them nearby, not too pricey and with a free shuttle (but you have to be an intrepid explorer to find the shuttle stop at the airport). The shuttle gave us some problems the next morning because Saturday schedules were different, which meant that we were late, and -- here we suffer -- had to be upgraded to First. Very nice flight, arriving in CUN early afternoon, where we avoided the ground transportation hassle by being met by our son with a car (Kevin was working there for the past year). On the return, we had to take a taxi because there was no gas in Kevin's car or in the Playa gas station. Price was reasonable for 3 1/2 people (dropped Kevin at his job at Iberostar Paraiso's dive office). The long flight was fine, but not first class, sigh, and the short one was noisy but short. For this magic carpet, we paid about $730 Can. each. I booked it all, flights and hotel, on the Net, with Yahoo Travel. The other time we went it was in early December '99, end of low season, and the flights were about $350 US each, but we had 2 stops in the US got rerouted through Dallas instead of Charlotte -- US Air, this was, I think. It seems the more stops you make, the chaeaper it is. That one I found through a travel agent.) Air Canada will get you to Mexico City via Toronto or Montreal. Charters are cheap but don't leave from Ottawa, so you have to get to Montreal or Toronto, too. Okay, that's it! Tell your brother to get himself in gear. |
