Actually the New Madrid (named after a small town in Missouri) fault was quite active with several earthquakes around 1800, including a BIG one in 1812 which actually changed the course of the Mississippi River.
When that goes again the entire midwest can expect some damage, especially St. Louis and Memphis, but as they were saying on the news today, also Chicago and Milwaukee.
Not living in an area with frequnt quakes leads us into complacency which will get us into trouble someday ... hopefully not soon.
