I want to thank you for your work on your restaurant list. With only so many days and a stomach only so big, we read everything and made a stab at the list. The following is our report:
Las Parillas has plummeted in quality with the addition of their new two-story addition and "stainless steel" kitchen. My favorite dish was bland and undercooked. It was a fun place but that has changed with the expansion.
La Pumarrola was the place for dinner, we went there three nights out of eight. Incredible bread, pasta, Calzones, and Pizza. A little pricy, but sharing everything helps the cost. We brought a bottle of wine to Donatello and we received a bottle of homemade Limoncello in return. Everyone recieves a complimentary plate of something. The first night it was Bruchetta, the second Meatballs and bread, the third, Italian Sausage wrapped in Pizza dough. Absolutely incredible, hopefully he will be there next year. This place is like old Playa, end of a dirt road, beautiful moon, need I say more?
Yaxche was absolutely suburb, even with a large wedding party in progress, we got a table in a beautiful corner of the patio, the service was fantastic, and the food incredible.
Petite Marrakesh was very good, but the cook is definately proud of himself. The restaurant is across from Sur (the steakhouse) and a few shops from the corner so it was not crowded and this hurts the atmosphere.
Mamitas Beach was always crowded so we went to Kool next door. For 70 pesos the padded white lounge chairs were worth the money. The food is fantastic and the facilities are better than Mamitas. It rained one day so we went to Mamitas to eat and still thought Kool's food was much better.
Pesca was very good, however we got the Seafood Platter and thought it a bit greasy. We probably would not go back there.
Anyway, our stay was incredible, we love Playa (even though it growing too fast), and we will be back next year.
