I actually will be arriving at the Ibero* Tucan on 12/4. I just recieved an email from Feliciana asking us if we would like to upgrade at no cahrge to the Maya. Apparently their opening day of 12/3 is a go. Please let us know how it is! My family declined the upgrade offer as we really love the Tucan and have been going every year now for the last 3 yrs. My husband and I may like to try the Maya this coming spring by ourselves.

It's going to be a beautiful property. The Lindo is great and we are already planning on returning to the property as well as staying at the Maya. Good luck and have a great trip. |

Hi! I think you can rest assured that you'll have a great vacation at the Maya. We visited the Lindo last February, saw some of the ongoing construction for the Maya (which shares most facilities with the Lindo, such as the Quezel/Tucan do in Playa del Carmen). The Lindo is awesome. The only place it tops is the Barcelo Maya, which we visited 3 years ago. This will be our third Iberostar vacation, and I have to say that they do things just a bit better than other resorts (in our opinion). The food is just a hint better, the resorts clean and elegant. It only tops the Barcelo by having all-la carte restaurants every night (we get tired of most buffets by the end of the week), and by being closer to the airport.
The Maya/Lindo will share restaurants (all superb), the beach (can't wait to partake of the completed beach bar!!), pools, etc. The wave pool was real fun for our kids (runs the first 15 minutes of every hour). Swim up bar was a hoot also. I can't see that there will be any differences between the Maya/Lindo other than the Maya being all Jr. Suites, where the Lindo has Jr. Suites and reg. rooms, so I'd say you can base your upcoming experience on past Lindo reviews. So, when you come back, post some info. on the Maya for those who are going there this winter - DH, my son and I included on Feb. 5 - can't wait! |

Iberostar Maya
I just returned Dec. 2 from the Lindo. While there I was able to tour the Maya. There was very little construction going on. They were working around the clock to get it finished. The place is overwhelming. The rooms are very nice. The big pyrimid building has a centerpiece you have to see to believe. Don't worry you will be amazed! I took photos that I'll post as soon as I get time.

Regarding differences between the Maya and Lindo, this site mentions a few:
http://www.familytravelnetwork.com/news_647.asp Not sure where they got their info, but they claim that there will be two restaurants and three pools that are only for Maya guests. Also, the official Iberostar site mentions that the Maya will have concierge service (but they don't define what that means). I think we are going to book the Maya for May, so I'll be anxious to see any photos and trip reports that people are able to share! Last edited by Coral Reef : 12-03-2004 at 06:16 PM. |

I think we'll have to wait until actual guests come back with a report on what the real deal is. In many resorts, the concierge service makes your dinner reservations for the ala carte restaurants...and sometimes your off property excursions too. They are also there to help you with any problems or concerns that you may have...kind of like they run interference between you and the front desk. Not sure exactly what the concierges at the Maya will be doing as it varies from hotel to hotel. |

We were at the Lindo in September, 2004 and the construction was far from finished. Talked to Iberostar today and they opened Maya completely on December 1. We are returning for our 25th anniversary to the Maya in February as we loved the Lindo . From what Iberostar has told us, we have the run of the entire facility, even more personal service, and there are a few restaurants that the Lindo patrons will not have access as well as an all adult private pool for Maya patrons only. Guess we will see when we get there. Hopefully, somebody will visit and tell us the "real" scoop. We can hardly wait for our seven days of heaven to start again. Our last trip they had to carry us screaming back to the plane. LOL We will post after our trip in February what we think about the Maya and the difference in the two hotels.

TXaggiemom, We are scheduled to be at the Del Mar Feb13-19 for our 25th wedding anniversary also. Thinking maybe we will be offered an upgrade to the Maya as the Del Mar seems not to be offered on the Apple website for that week. Hasnt been offered for a few weeks now. When are you going? I wish you a wonderful week!

If they do upgrade you would be wonderful as the Lindo and Maya are fabulous facilities. We will also be there Feb 12-19. Our anniversary is the 14th. Were you a Valentine's bride also? Thought it was a great idea at the time, but when the world is trying to celebrate the day at the same time it isn't always so easy to find a place to have a nice dinner, etc. I am really looking forward to getting back to Iberostar. Maybe we will run into you there. I know we looked at Apple to book our vacation, but they only do charter during high season and we are in an area that does not offer charter service through Apple Vacations. I had looked for it on their site and finally called them and they explained that to me. We booked through Continental vacations as we had also done in September. Our travel experience was great and our transfers, etc were excellent. Wish it was already February, how about you??!!!

Sorry it took me so long to get back...Actually I am a Christmas bride...Dec 22, just smart enought to leave the lovely weather of Wisconsin in Feb. would be great to run into you, Where are you from- Texas is my uneducated guess. I will probably drive everyone insane at work before Feb. I try to keep it low key. I know my daughter says " Just ignore her!" My husband and I are in our upper 40's- that hurts to say that- and you? |

BABS31, You almost got it right. I AM a native Texan currently transplanted just this past year to Oklahoma. With most Texans, it is once a Texan, always a Texan!!! Will move back to Texas when we retire, but have to go where the job says go, so here we are. It is really not so bad, just miss my kids. We are in our early 50's so not too much older, but that is even harder to say. LOL. I too can hardly wait until February. I am hoping that we get some good feedback here on the Maya to see what the scoop is. Probably not for another week or two though since it only opened last Friday though. We aren't quite as cold here in OK as Wisconsin so we can probably stand it for a little longer until we get to sunny Mexico.

Maya worries
Hi there, we just returned from a 2 week stay at the Lindo and the Maya opened while we were there. We ate a number of meals in the specialty restaurants there and all seemed to be running smoothly. We did not see any construction and everything appeared to be completed. It is beautiful! No worries ....

Thanks so much for the information. I take it you had a great time while at the Lindo?? Did the pool area seem to be crowded with the opening on the Maya? Did the Lindo guest have access to the Maya restaurants? Thanks you for your reply.
