Good resort for honeymoon?

My fiance and I are looking for a resort for our honeymoon in September and we're completely overwhelmed by the number of choices! Basically, what we're looking for is: AI, adults only (or at least not swarming with kids), a nicely furnished room and a decent beach (by decent I mean large enough that people aren't packed like sardines). So far we've looked into:

- El Dorado Royale but I get the impression that it doesn't have the greatest beach.
- The renovated El Dorado Seaside Suites look beautiful, but I haven't been able to find a whole lot of reviews on them.
- Barcelo Maya seems to have a great beach, but the rooms don't look as nice as some of the other resorts.

Any and all recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!!

If you can do it, definitley head to the Royal Hideaway..........just got back from my honeymoon there, you will be treated like royalty the whole time you are there! Do a search for reviews on RH, and you will see what I mean. Please let me know if you have any specific questions that I can answer for you.

We have just recently returned from the El Dorado Royale. It is an excellent choice for a honneymoon. If you look at the ratio of:

size of the property
length of the beach
number of bars, restaurants & pools

in relation to the number of rooms ( meaning # of guests)
you will realize that this resort offers a very private never crowded, cozy snuggleup kind of feeling. We took over 300 pics while we were there and in most of them there aren't any other people. I have posted a small collection of them on this site in a member gallery under my username, have a look and you can see what the beach is like.

IMHO this is a perfect resort for a romantic vacation...not a party place....

To give you a few more option, I wouldn't count out the higher-end resorts, as they tend not to cater to families due to the higher cost.

We took our honeymoon at the Iberostar Lindo, and absolutely fell in loved with it. You won't find a resort with a better selection and quality of pools (5 including a wave pool and lazy river). My wife and I also liked the selection of 5 a la carte restaurants (with air conditioning) + two buffets, fantastic rooms overlooking the pool or garden (honeymoon suites offer jacuzzis), and top-notch service. We did not spend a lot of time at the beach, however, when we were there, we found it to be clean and easy to walk along.

From my earlier research, I also thought hard on Royal Hideaway ($$$), Aventura-Spa Palace (no real beach), Riu Palace, and both of the Secrets resorts. Best of luck.

Great pictures, Shootingstar! We're going to EDR for our honeymoon in February, so it was great to see some pictures of how lovely it is. Wish I could leave today! (Did you write a review? If not, I'd love to hear one from you. :::hinthinthint:: )

Does anyone else in the gallery have pics of El Dorado Royale, to anyone's knowledge?

Secrets Excellence is absolutely wonderful! We just returned from there celebrating our 15 year anniversary, and we both had the best time of our life. We have been to other resorts in the Cancun/Playa area, and this one is by far the best. My husband says he doesn't see how in the world any others down there can top it. The room is truly romantic, the food is the best we have ever had at any hotel or all-inclusive resort, the drinks are all top shelf liquor, and the service is superior to any other.

My hubby and I have been twice. The 1st time was for our 10th anniversary. The next year we went back just because we loved it so much the 1st time. The $$$$ is well worth the service, food(yumyum!), and the overall experience. If you go, make sure to see Santiago in the piano bar/outside sitting area He won't let your drink get anywhere close to being empty!

D'oh! There it is, indeed! Thanks for pointing it out!

We're from Minnesota, land of endless snow--although none this year so far!

If you have the money, I hear Maroma is the best in the area. I have always wanted to stay there. Unfortunately, I think the cheapest rooms are around 450/night.
