The Great Chili Cook-Off

As a wintry chill rushes through Oklahoma (Yep, that's right...Beat the **** out of Colorado yesterday ) the Lovely Lady Lawyer and I are now planning our next visit to PDC.

Me thinks a Texas vs. Oklahoma vs Canada vs. Mexico chili contest is in order come Spring. What say you "regulars"?

The rules would be quite simple--so Bumper and the San Marcos Kid could participate.

If you're interested, let the forum know.

Ah yes, a chili cookoff!! Brings back fond memories of Alberta, Canada. We had this annual rodeo, 2 day affair, and along with it a big chili cook off. This was the highlight and consumed most of the afternoon of the first day. There were groups all set up and a requirement was each group was to have a costume theme. Too funny. My friend, that is coming to Playa also this year, was a big chili contestant and did manage to win one year. Complete in his dress dating from the 1800's. Too funny. There were 7 in the group and all dressed as pioneer women. The finale was that the chili was sold for a buck a bowl and the proceeds went to a local charity. Then of course it was off to the beer gardens. A good time had by all. Yes I think a chili cook off sounds like a great idea. When are you there next Ram? We are going to be there (and surrounding area) from Jan 7 to end of Feb. Not sure of departure date yet. Might be having just way too much fun to leave. Maybe James and Anna can add this to the tour options???? Which reminds me must book one of their tours.
Cheers, Anne

Huh?!?! Was that a zinger, counsellor? Admittedly, the "chili" we know best in this part of the world is the -40 degree "chilly" variety, but we know from hamburger and beans, and nuclear waste, and a few other secret ingredients we won't be revealing in this environment. Our stuff makes your eyeballs sweat. Bring it on, Ram. I'll take you on with one hand tied behind my back, or two hands, or both hands and both legs, like that dude in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Time frame is the determining factor though. We'll be in Playa from Feb 23 until March 18, and we've got some pretty weighty commitments leading up to the Playa del Carmen Beach O-LIMP-XX on March 7 & 8, and likely a cruise on the 17th of March, but aside from that, we're game.

Lemme' see now, some diving, few days on Isla Mujeres, Beach O-LIMP-XX, some vegging on the beach, chili cookoff, St. Paddy's Day Fat Cat Cruise, visiting with forum peeps...we may just have to move to Playa. Looks like we're talking stomach pump and detox.

Hubby and I host a charity BIG KAHUNA CHILI COOKOFF & LUAU BY THE LAKE each year in May. (Thus the BIG KAHUNA name, I WON!) This next year will be our 6th one. Both Hubby and I make a mean chili. I won 5th place out of 30 cooks in the Sneaky Petes Parrothead Chili Cookoff 2 years ago. We are definitely up for the challenge!

Sounds like a wad of macho chest-beating by men and women alike. Fortunately for the contestants, I will be in Oregon during the chili-off .

Don't give up so easily, Roni. As far as I can tell, no potential date has been put forward yet, so you may be in the running yet.

Bumper, what're U doing UP!!!!

I was going to look for the "Texas Chili Cook-off" summary when I saw it as a related post. The first time I saw that i was in the office, sitting at my desk on the 6th floor of City Hall with tears streaaming down my face laughing hysterically. That's a great piece!

Whatchu mean, Willis? Sure, I'm still up. I'm just old, I ain't dead! Retired to, so I rarely set the alarm anymore, though Mondays are our day to volunteer at the food bank so I'm for tucky-bys right promptly. Yeah, I loved that Texas Chili Cook Off report, Brent. I don't hesitate to put it forward as recommended reading. City Hall, eh? Silly servant are we? Explains why you had time to spend on the forum. You know why civil servants aren't allowed to look out the windows in the morning, don't you? That's so they'll have something to do in the afternoon. BA-DUM-BUM!

Gotta love that retirement thing. I talked to my Dad earlier this eve....had to remind him what day it was. Told him to get the calendar out and start USING it!!!

Yeah, I'm a snivel servant. Actually really enjoy what I do...too much says the marital unit. Do Development Reg/Review in the Engineering side of things. If I remember correctly, my last pension statement said I can retire with "an un-reduced Pension" (whatever that is?) in November of 2018. Always good to have something to work towards!

You no doubt have heard the story of the 3 little boys sitting around bragging about how fast their Dads are.

Kid 1 says "My Dad is an Olympic sprinter and he can run a 9 second 100m".

Kid 2 says "That's nothin', my Dad is a running back and he runs a 4 second 40"

Kid 3 says " My Dad can beat both of your Dads hands down"

Kid 1 says "Huh, your Dad? He works at City Hall!"

Kid 2 "Yeah, how do ya figure?"

"Easy" says Kid 3, "He works 'til 4:30 every day at City Hall, but when I get home from school at 3:45, he's already on the couch watchin' Oprah!"

Brrrrrrrrting (best rimshot sound effect I could come up with)

Brent
