Our first trip to Playa del Carmen, we stayed at both! We spent four nights at La Tortuga and 4 nights at Shangri La Caribe. Staying at the city location of La Tortuga, we used those days to do the bulk of our exploring (Mayan Ruins, altournative trips, etc.). It was a perfect place to come home to - immaculate rooms, and cool air, and a tv to unwind to after a day of exploring. But, on the flipside, being at Shangrila Caribe was the ultimate vacation spot. A great way to split the trip. The beach was divine and the resort was laid back and provided the perfect end to our Playa visit. We fell in love with Shangrila Caribe and have gone back several times. We are sad to see it go next year...but happy to have been able to get in one last trip. We can't wait!
