Well I ordered my Tivo upgrade drive today. Got the 160GB upgrade from PTV Upgrade. They already shipped it this afternoon, which means I'll have it on Monday because they are local in Chicago.

Did not go for all the network enabled stuff. As cool as that sounds I decided I really don't need to be able to control my Tivo from my lap top.

Now that I've added all this equipment in the basement I'll probably get another Mitsubishi big screen to put down there. I'll hook up my old Samsung 160 OTA hd box and have HD networks in the basement. Merry Christmas to me.!

I'll let you know how the install of the Tivo drive goes next week.

Today's update. I bought a 55" Mitsubishi RPTV for the basement with a Samsung progressive scan DVD player that supposedly up reses DVD's to 720P or 1080i and connects via DVI cable. I'll hook up my old Samsung 160 HD OTA box to the set so I have the networks in HD in the basement.

The guilt and panic of spending the money hasn't set-in yet because everything was no payments no interest for 18 months.

Now all I'll need down in the basement is a nice Yamaha receiver and some good speakers.

New set is being delivered tomorrow. Happy Hannakuh to me!

So do I.

If your travels ever take you through Chicago, you're more than welcome to stop by.

I have an 80 tivo on cable. Recording on high I get 34 hours, to get 80 hours you have to record on low and you can tell the difference.

The DirecTv Tivo units will only record on high. These units no longer give you the option of recording quality.

jtm.......

What did the 160 gb hd set you back? I tried looking, but needed a model number. Let me know how the 'surgery' goes, I just might attempt it.

Sounds like your set now! The kids will have to love the BIG screen games.

I have a good friend in Phoenix that does the really high-end stuff. He puts home theatres in most of the stars homes. Alice Cooper, KJ, and most of the Phx Suns use him. Were talkin' motorized screens dropping out of the ceiling, all state of the art stuff.

His house is set up nicely too. 2 front projection 100+ screens. One of them was a Koss Novabeam system. It's nice, but I like my 55' HD better. He's the guy that 'introduced' me to satt. many yrs. ago. Back in the C band days. As well as kept me going with the descramblers, and provide numbers for me. A good guy to know....

The DirecTv $50 deal is the Hughes SD-DVR40. The cost was $159. The drive I got was under the "add-on kits" tab.

The kids love the big screen games. I however do not like the DVD player I got. The picture seems a bit grainy using the DVI inputs on the darks. Now that I have read up on the player there have been some reviews which say the same thing about the player.

I'll probably just go for a decent progressive scan player using component cables.

Be honest with me Jt
Are you into the games with your kids(xbox, sega, ps2)?

Rixx

On your widescreen do you rotate your picture format from time to time?

I was just talking to a buddy of mine from college and we realized how old we were getting because we can't understand video games any more.

My brother writes all of the ESPN / Sega games so I have been known to spend some time playing those. Just got all the new NFL, NBA & NHL 2K5 games from him so I may have to spend some time testing my brothers new product.

????

Cost was 159.00....you mean retail? And that they sold it to you for 50.00?

I got a Mitsu Progressive Scan DVD player that looks great! (Picture wise) Can't remember what I paid for it...got it along with the TV. No problems so far with it. Plays all my homemade CD's as well as DVD's. I'm happy with it.

Kinz.....Yep! I rather look at the full screen, than have it part black. Also it's rough on the TV and will 'burn in' if left there for awhile. I know...My wife had CNN on thru much of the Iraq deal...I can see a slight 'trail' where they (CNN) runs the ticker across the bottom of the screen. No more CNN around here!

Sorry, the upgrade drive from PTV was $159. The original Tivo box from DirecTv was $50.
