Male 47.49% Female 52.51% (2000 Census stats) Just a few years ago, we changed our system of government from town to city. We now have a mayor (but I'd be guessing at what the heck his name is....). Right, I'm really involved, huh! |

Vancouver Island:
pop. 750,000 size; 12,407 sq mi. Largest city: Victoria--350,000 people Where I live--Duncan, in the Cowichan Valley (Cowichan is a Coast Salish Indian name for warm land), pop 6000 The island is composed of little towns and municipalities that run into one another. Nearly all are on the east coast as the west coast is too rugged and wild and there are no roads to that side only logging ones. (probably explains no population, haha) Very rough. No places for safe harbours for ships either. Nearly every town is on the water. Lots of marinas and boating is huge here. We are a part of British Columbia but think we are a little bit different and remain aloof. haha Very hot in the summer, hardly ever goes below zero (celcius) in the winter and maybe 5-6 days of snow. Which melts quickly. Not unusual to see cars with skiis on top, kayaks, mountain bikes, surf boards-- and that is all at one time and in all seasons. Lots of mountains and lakes. Very pretty place to be ... BUT IT AIN'T PLAYA!!! |

This is 2002, so it's probably tripled by now. Too crowded I think!
