Hi all,
I got a new computer last week and ever since I use the new one I can't use the Playa-Info smilies any more and even attaching pics or links doesn't work any more with the buttons for it. I didn't change my profile when I installed the new computer, changing browser doesn't help, I already searched all the internet-settings but now I have no more idea where to look. When I click on any of the icons just nothing happens (neither the smilies nor the window for adding URLs for inserting pics opens up). What is strange too is that I can see the 'Close current tag' and 'close all tags' words but where ther probably should be buttons I can only see a grey space with red crosses. I have Windows XP now and use Mozilla Firefox (but it's no longer working with Netscape either). Java is installed and enabled. Does anybody have any idea? Would be great as it's too much work to type the HTML-commands. On other boards the smilies still work...Regards Andrea |

In Firefox under Preferences --> Web Features --> if you have the Block Popup Windows box checked --> click on the Allowed Sites button to the right and then type in the web address www.playadelcarmeninfo.com and click the Allow button.

Hi Denise,
I did all you wrote, didn't help (entered all domain-names I know of this board). Did the same on the Windows XP-Pop-up-blocking site as well. Nothing helps... Will continue to change settings concerning pop ups (disabled blocking on Norton too, didn't help either). Thanks a lot for giving me another hint as to where I can look. If I find out what helps, I will post it here.Regards Andrea |

gotta be a Javascript issue (not Java, which is unrelated).
I would check around those settings. (tools, options, web features, make sure "Enable JavaScript" is checked) If it already is, let us know and we'll keep trying with suggestions. edit: adding to Denisea's advice, if you are entering the site via our playa.info domain, then you'll need to add that one also. But... Firefox should give you a message that it has blocked a pop-up. I'm not sure that is the case, because a smart pop-up blocker, like the one in Firefox, shouldn't stop the type of action triggered in this case. It isn't actually a pop-up but a Javascript enabled new window fired by a user's click. It is not passively fired, but user-requested. |

Hi James,
thanks. I have Java enabled, when I looked at the Firefox-pop-up settings I saw a list of blocked pop-ups but nothing was related to Playa-Info. Playa.info is one of the domains I entered so if it really had to do with the pop-ups, it would have helped. But disabling pop-ups completely didn't help either. I don't think it's related to Firefox as it's the same when I try it with Netscape. As I didn't change any settings for the browser or my user-profile here I guess it's a feature on Win XP as on my old computer I had Win98 and it worked fine there. As long as I know the HTML-code for what I want to post here it's not real problem, it's just easier to use smilies and the other features... I will continue to play around but there is not much left I haven't checked yet. Andrea |

Sounds like it might be caused by the built-in security and popup blocking features of WindowsXP. I'd start by double clicking the little red shield on the task bar and turn that feature off. If you still have your old computer available, in Internet Explorer, go to TOOLS, INTERNET-OPTIONS, ADVANCED and make sure the check marks on your new computer match those of the old. Do the same with the security tabs, etc.. If it still doesn't work after a reboot, I'd uninstall any firewall or internet security software. Still doesn't work? I'd download the Java plug-in and patch it again. I'd also do a Windows-Update and make sure you've got the works. Choose the custom option to see if by chance there might be a hardware patch for the chipset or video card. I assume this computer has Service Pack 2 (SP2)...
It's also possible that nothing will correct it without doing a BIOS patch or maybe nothing can correct it. Let me make a guess here... I'm betting you have a computer with an AMD processor. See weird stuff like that on a regular basis and it's usually the result of a crappy chipset. I swear some are created by a deranged dude on a barge in the Yellow Sea surviving on tequila. flash/java plugin
maybe you have to install...java...flash 6.0 and ??? and and...when you have a new installation of windows enz...first check if there aren't any updates left...
But i think its java or flash plug in... Microsoft has a difulculty with java (sun)...so it will not be delivered on the window installation cd... |

There are loads of features which can either be dis- or enabled at the 'security'-tab in ' internet properties' which can be reached through 'control panel' then security center'.
Check out the button that doesn't say 'standard level' (I'm not sure what the proper translation of my own dutch version is) The things you've tried before seem to me to be on the 'advanced'-tab. |

Hey Teezet, thanks, but I am not sure what you are trying to tell me. Seems that your dutch version has something like 'standard level' which my german version doesn't have... (so far to 'neighbouring countires do understand each other
). At least I have the 'advanced features'
