Bodyworks OUT wheres IN?

OK; if Bodyworks is closing, Where can I go to an Aerobic class? Does anyone know where the Aerobic instructors that are at Bodyworks are moving to when Bodyworks closes? I am bummed out this was my favorite little gym.

Stopped in there today and was told that Cindy is going to open up a new gym on 5th. I've got her cell # so will give her a call to verify and let you know.

Nancy, the Aerobics instructor from Bodyworks, is going to give classes in Kwan Moo Do Playa, the Martial Arts School on the Fifth Avenue.

So... This Gym "The Zone" is owned by the same woman who owned Bodyworks? Does anyone know the monthly/weekly rates? What is it next to?

I got some more info about this gym, it`s called Area Bodyzone & Fitness and is in Plaza Paseo del Carmen.
I donīt know who owns the place, but Cindy, the owner of Bodyworks will probably be the new manager there.
About prices, I am not sure how much the rates are, but I have been told that everything goes by packages, not separetely like Bodyworks used to do. So you pay a certain amount and for that price you can do for example fitness, aerobics, spinning.
Maybe somebody from this forum is already training there and can provide us with the prices?

Prices for The Zone include a $300+USD initiation fee, + approx $70USD/mo. The monthly rate is twice Bodywork's which also had no initiation fee. However, all the equipment in the older gym has been purchased by Bodywork's spinning instructor who is apparently going to open a gym of her own, though Cindy had none of the details for that. Although I'm sure The Zone is quite nice, it's out of my price range. Thankfully though, I did receive a full refund from Bodyworks for the final 6 months of my membership there. Time to figure out what my next arrangements will be... (After the current PlayaInfo crowd goes home!)

What about the Curves for women in Playa? I am a member here in Canada ( have been for 5 years)...I love it. It isn't your conventionall gym, rather, but each machine (using hydrolics) works out 2-4 muscle areas at the same time. It is a circuit, with recovery stations inbetween each machine. If done properly...you will get awesome results. Pricing is way better..about $30/month...not sure of their sign up fee though...depends.

Thanks for the update Susie. The initation fee isnīt that in pesos? 300 USD seems extremely high to me.
Itīs a pity that this gym doesnīt manage similar prices as Bodyworks did, because most people wonīt be able or willing to pay almost double the amount they were paying before.

I don't think I'm mistaken about that... it's about $3000 pesos. I think that's comparable to high end gyms in the states, but they are usually making special offers to lower that fee or eliminate it. It sounds like the Zone's equipment and environment is much more luxurious than BW... it's even air-conditioned, but all that doesn't really matter to me. I just need a basic gym with good weights and benches and a few cardio pieces.

I guess I will look into the one on 6th off 30th, but I wasn't taken with the atmosphere there when I first saw it. Since I'm closer to Puerto Aventuras, I may try to negotiate with the gym manager there as well. Otherwise, I'm back to my small set of dumbbells and exercise ball!

And yes, there is a Curves, but it doesn't provide the workout that a conventional gym does for serious bodybuilding and cardio.

body works

where is the Curves located? The gym on 6th between 30 and 35 really is not that bad. I found out the earlier you can get there, the better. And I did like their prices. I go to a Ladies Choice so I am spoiled and don't have to worry about the beefy men working out.

What can I say? Beefy men don't bother me a bit! Curves is in the Chedraui complex and was managed by a gringa, but she may have been getting ready to move back to the states when I met her in November. Otherwise, it looked to be nice, from what I could see of it.
