Hi Teresa, I'm just back from Playa del Carmen, where I spent a couple of weeks. I stayed at Hacienda del Caribe, a very nice 3 star hotel in town, beside the bus station (to go to Cancun and everywhere you want to go) and very close to the "colectivos" meeting point (van-taxis used by locals). The Riviera bus company is cheap enough (32 Pesos to go to Cancun) and buses leave every 15 minutes, but they go downtown Cancun, at the bus station. From the Cancun airport maybe you have to take a taxi to the bus station and then take a bus to Playa. Hacienda del Caribe is 2 minutes walk from the station, so you don't have to walk too much with your luggage. It has a small pool and the rooms are very nice and clean. The staff is friendly and there is a security service during the night. When I was there, there was a promotion of 50 USD per night, breakfast included, for two people.
Also, this hotel is 5 minutes walk to the ferry and 2 minutes walk to the beach. It is downtown and it is sorrounded by any kind of restaurants, bars and shops. Should you have any enquiry, let me know. Take care and enjoy yourself. Bye. |

Wherever you end up, getting to the ferry pier is very easy and only a 12 peso taxi ride from within town.
I think Xenia is busted with that one. Three posts now with the same content. Owner? Investor?

Teresa : I would suggest something a further
from the bus depot . it can get awful noise with buses and taxi's coming & going 24 hours a day . There are many, many small hotels north of 5th ave. Don't worry about booking ahead as they never all fill up. You will have your choice and can move or make a deal with the hotel if u are planning to stay more that a few days as they are all ready to bargain. |

Booking ahead is a great way to take advantage of the many excellent websites that help you make informed decisions while home. That way when you arrive, you can spend your time on the beach, not walking around in the heat, looking for a place to stay.

Dear James,
just a few lines to let you know that I'm not the owner nor an investor. If I recommended Hacienda del Caribe 3 times is just because I liked it very much. I thought that the purpose of your website was to exchange opinions and give advices. Maybe I misunderstood. |

No need to try and take the moral highground, Xenia. Your three identically themed posts are very consistent with the type we sometimes have to filter out when an owner/investor comes on the board and tries to influence things (spam).
If we weren't about good, useful information, we wouldn't care enough to spend the time it takes to try and moderate these forums like we do. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay, and chose to share your experience. In the future, it may be of more benefit to create a single post with your experience rather than make several very similar ones.

dear lady ... I can recommend Casa Tucan, calle 4 twix ave 10 y 15, which is a short walk or cheap cab ride to ferry & bus station ... nice pool, charming tropical garden setting which should be cool in hot months, german crowd but speaking english, cute affiliated cafe, must be under $50 for standrad room in summer, web site is at Casa Tucan on any search engine

Anything at Calle 12 or less is a 5-10 minute easy walk from the ferry. There are many good hotels along the beach, some with swimming pools, some without. We were in PDC a month ago and it was sure a LOT cooler along the beach than on 5th Ave. We saw some nice hotels along 5th Avenue, but I couldn't imagine just sitting outside at them because it was so much hotter there at just 50-100 meters from the beach. On the other hand there was always a very nice breeze off the ocean if you were right on the beach sitting in the shade of a palapa.
