I'm leaning towards one of these budget hotels. I'll be in PDC July 20-27 so I want to get my reservations nailed down prety quickly. I'd appreciate any thoughts from people who've been there and can tip my decision in one direction or another! : )
Eclipse quotes me a price of $37/night tax included for a one person room with A/C. Riviera want's $45 bucks. I'll be travelling with a friend and we're debating whether to each get our own cheap room or share a room. If we choose the latter Kinbe has the following deal for $75/night which works out to $37.50 each so basically the same price range: Minisuite Junior Balcony: particulary room divided in two levels, up there is a king-size bed and down a little living room with a sofa'-matrimonial bed. Air conditioning, fan and private bathroom. Private balcony and an amazing ocean-view. Price 75 USD or without ocean-view we have available: * Minisuite Garden: particulary room divide in two levels, up there is a king-size bed and down a little living room with a sofa'-matrimonial bed. Air conditioning, fana and private bathroom. Price 65 USD Anyway....thanks in advance for your help! |

I loved Hotel Eclipse, but...as someone noted in another thread, there is currently construction to the north. If you plan to be on the go during the day, no problem. If you insist on hanging out at the hotel all day, it might be annoying. When I travel, I rarely sit around at the hotel all day anyway--why should I, when the beach is a short block away?
You may find ongoing construction anywhere in Playa these days; I hear that Quinta Mija (a couple of blocks away) is being renovated in a big way. |

If I were to rate these three hotels, I would choose Riviera del Sol at the top of the list because it has more to offer (pool, restaurant, balconies) and has the look and feel of a tiny resort.
I would make Kinbe my second choice, since all of the rooms are exceptionally clean and air conditioned. I especially like the location right off 5th Avenue and dead center to activities on either end of town. I looked at the room you mentioned with the upper loft (bedroom) but didn't care for it as much as their standard rooms. The staff here is great and they have a security person on all night. Lastly, the Eclipse is about a block north of Kinbe on 1st Avenue. I believe the owner's name is Peter and he's a great source of travel information while you're staying there. Value wise, it's a good deal but I didn't find it to be as clean or polished as the other two. When I was there in May, they were building a new condo right next door (to the north), so it was a bit noisy there during the day. These are just my observations. By the way, you can reliably book Riviera del Sol at http://www.cozyhotelsandvillas.com/ Jimmy in Minnesota |
