Any info on these budget hotels?

We still haven't unpacked completely, but we're already planning to come back in April. But to do so, we have to do it on the cheap ... and the prices we saw at these hotels' websites were intriguing. We have searched, we have googled, but we can't find much, if any, info on any of these -- and would prefer to not have to rely solely on their websites for decision-making.
Can anyone help?
Maya Turquesa (Calle 8, between Aves 10 & 15)
Hotel Villa Del Mar (Ave 10, between Calles 2 & 4)
Hotel Hul-Ku (Ave 20, between Calles 4 & 6)

Also, Casa de las Flores (Ave 20, between Calles 4 & 6). That I was able to dig up some opinions on.

Also in the price range running (and with Q beds or bigger, a must for us) are Villa Catarina and Posada Freud -- for both of which there is plenty of info.

We don't need fancy, and we don't need to be in the middle of the La Quinta action. We tend to use PDC as a "crash pad" and use the collectivos to go elsewhere during the day. And, as I wrote, price is a major consideration this time. For that reason, I am leaning toward Hotel Villa del Mar, but would sure love to not have to make a complete leap of faith.
Thanks for any input, yea or nay.

You could always stay at the hostel on Calle 8 and 20 AV. You can get rooms with double beds or two single beds for 280 pesos. That was the price over the holidays, so it might be cheaper now. You get a communnal kitchen, so you can save some money on food by cooking your own meals. The staff is friendly and the travellers are, for the most part, interesting.

I stayed at Posada Freud, and thought it was the cat's pajamas. I don't remember seeing any of the others you mentioned. Good luck!

Sorry, no info in any of those, but What is your price range?

I posted an answer some days ago with prices for some other hotels that fall in the Cheap but clean category.

I mention this hotel every time someone asks about a cheap place, but no one else seems to have any other input on it. I personally like San Juan Pension on 5th Ave. For $35-40 a night you can get a room with full or queen sized bed, fridge, and ac. They also have a shared kitchen. I posted their contact info in another thread somewhere. If you do a search you'll find it. Glad you had a great trip!

I've rearranged your list in order of Best to Worst... For some reason I don't recall Hotel Hul-Ku, so I put it on the bottom of the list.

Casa de las Flores is quite charming and is way out ahead of the pack. They have a beautiful lounge area, a charming pool and well maintained courtyard.

Hotel Villa del Mar always catches my eye when I walk past because of the wide wrought iron gate that marks it's presence. They've carved out an area behind the businesses on 10th Avenue and created a very private courtyard with pool.

Maya Turquesa is a place I'd probably suggest if absolutely nothing else was available. I've stayed at Hotel Sahara right next door on the corner of Calle8 & 15th Avenue a few times, so I'm fairly familiar with the neighborhood.

Although I have a number of photos of Casa de Las Flores and Hotel Villa del Mar, I'll make it a point to get some new ones with the wide angle lens of all these mentioned properties when I'm down there next week.

I'm leaving you with a partial view of the courtyard at Casa de las Flores...

Rosa Mirador

Depends on WHEN you are going in April ~

Below are the advertised rates April 16th to July 14th at the Rosa Mirador located in a GREAT location on Avenida 1 between Calles 12 y 14. The MAIN entrance of the hotel is actually located on a little street called Primera Privada. According to the website these rates are with 10 days advance notice, but I'd be willing to bet you can also get a good walk up rate too, if you are willing to risk that.

This place is about 1/2 block from the beach and about the same distance away from the Blue Parrot. Far enough away to be quiet. We have not stayed there yet, but there are a number of people who post on this board who stay there on a regular basis.

No pool, and very basic. Cheap & Clean. The owners live onsite and speak very little English. I'm not sure, but you may be able to get Playa Info to take care of booking a room there for you, as they can do other hotels that aren't in their list.

Click here ROSA MIRADOR to look at their website.

Someone mentioned the following a while back:

http://www.hotel-paradise.com/pages/Rooms%20&%20Rates

I cannot offer any in-site however I have not stayed there.

I would like to see/know what the conclusion is, as I too am interested in a budget hotel.

Hotel Hul-Ku

I popped into Hotel Hul-ku when there a couple of weeks ago. The owner was very Espanol and communication was difficult. The hotel was very nice and very clean. His son was there who spoke not bad English. He suggested we communicate by e-mail. Never got the rates but the web site might have them posted. www.hotelhulku.com

Actually, gonna nip this one in the bud right now....All of the hotels we have listed under the trip planning tab are the only hotels with whom we are currently affiliated re: booking/free Playa Deal Cards. We plan to add others in the future, but as of today, the ones on the list are it.

We have stayed at Hotel Paradise many times. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the pool and inner courtyard nice. We also like the location. The hotel doesn't have a lot of ambiance or personality, but the price is right.

Maya Turquesa is under construction, for the record, or at least it's substantial amplification immediately adjacent to it is under construction. FWIW.

We really like The Eclipse Hotel. They have a variety of rooms from very basic to kitchenettes. Most, if not all, rooms have AC, TV and a fridge. No pool, but half a block from the beach, clean and well-managed. The owner is German and speaks excellent English, Spanish and French as well. Walk-up rate should be well under $50 US. It's on 1st Ave, near Calle 12, near the Blue Parrott.
