20th wedding anniversary

Looking for as much luxury as we can get for a surprise getaway for my husband at our 20th wedding anniversary. Is there a nice hotel for $50 per night - maybe even with an ocean view? I need to be frugal, but want to make it special as well. Thanks for any advice on lodging.

What month are you planning to take the trip? A lot will depend on what time of year you are visiting.

Well, I'm trying to work out frequent flyer miles - My hope was late May or early June for this trip. But, this depends on using ff miles.

Yepper, 5 houses and 3 states later.... it's 20 years!!! We have 17 year old and 12 year old sons.

You know David, we discovered Mexico in Dec. 2002, and after this spring break with the kids will have been there 4 times. When I tell friends I was trying to make a short anniversary trip, they think I must really like Mexico. One just does not understand the passion for this area unless one has been there! We have always done all - inclusive, and if we are lucky enough to figure something out for this anniversary we'll be trying non - AI. Anxious to check it out. Part of me really would like to try Isla Mujeres overnight - I just love it there.

Congrats on 20 years! Hubby & I just celebrated # 31. Time sure flies when you're having fun! Two daughters, two son-in-laws and five grandchildren later and we're still going to Mexico every February. Have been for almost half the time we've been married. And most times we end up at different places/areas. That's the fun of it. My favorite saying - The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page....

Oh, missed the part about Isla Mujeres that you mentioned. We went there last year - LOVED it! It's on our list of places we want to go back too. There is a web site on Isla that was very helpful for planning. I think it was www.isla-mujeres.net. If that doesn't work do a search and you'll find it. They have a great forum over there too.

You'll love non-AI. When ever I read about all inclusives I think back how the first 6 times we stayed in Cancun we NEVER ate at any of the hotels we stayed at except for a couple of breakfasts and lunch by the pools. And these were some of the best hotels in Cancun with highly rated resturants. We just always preferred getting out and exploring.

Wow, 20 years together!!! We too have been married for 20, 17 year of son & 15 year old daughter. We have made many trips to Mexico from Cabo to Cozumel, but this will be the first time for just the two of us alone, no friends or family. And this will be the first time that we've ever used a AI. Should be a new experience.

At a resort north of Playa called the El Dorado Royale. Adults only,(that should exclude the college age spring breakers), beyond that I don't know a whole lot about it yet. I'm doing a little digging to get some level of expectation. Trip Advisor had some good reports from those that have been there recently. Our intention is not to stay all day everyday within the confines of the resort, we always enjoy getting out and doing a little exploring.
