Riveria del Sol construction noise
I purchased plane tickets many months ago for a trip in late April, but we haven't picked a
hotel yet. Based on past experiences walking through the area, one of the smaller hotels north of Constituyentes would be desirable. A diligent reader of this board and Trip Advisor, Villa Amanecer, Riveria Caribe Maya, Quinto Sol all look good, and Riveria del Sol was the frontrunner. However, the recent review by Softy57 mentioned construction noise from 7AM to 6PM from a project across the street. Anyone know when this project completes? I can handle no restaurant or bar in a small place, but not loud construction noise. Also, of the other 3 mentioned, any unconditional recommendations? Riveria Caribe Maya is the current frontrunner. thx |

I was there with Softy myself. And I really didn't notice the construction noise myself. My issue was that having to leave the key at the front desk if the both of us were going to do something different then the other person, such as me diving and Softy going sight seeing. And we weren't certain that the other person would be there when the other person was.
However, that too turned out to be a non issue. |

We were there last week (same time as softy/stogey), and I woke up to construction noises at about 7:30 a.m. the first morning and I thought "Oh, my God. You have got to be kidding me!" Then we found that this was about the time we needed to get up anyways. If you are headed to the beach--you need to get there fairly early to save your chairs/umbrella, and several days we needed an early start for tours/trips/etc.
As far as location--it's great--a straight shot down the road to the beach. And the north end of town is really developing, and getting some great shops and nightlife (but Riv del Sol is still quiet at night). There is breakfast in the morning--toast, fruit, yogurt, cereal, juice, coffee. And the staff is very friendly. Most of Playa is under construction at any given moment, so who knows what will be happening next to any of the hotels. We ate at Media Luna one night, and the next day they were pounding out the walls of the upstairs, then the lower level was open for dinner! As for a finish date ???? I couldn't tell ya for sure, but the outside appears to be close to completion. |

Here at home I wake up at about 4am every day. Unfortunately that did not change in Mexico and I woke up about that time there too.
We were at the Riviera del Sol a week or so before Softy/Stogey. The noise didn't really bother us. But.... I could go to sleep at 10 or 11 or 1am and not worry about any outside noise. There was none. So if you are an early person the noise won't bother you. If you want to sleep in maybe the noise will be an issue. When we were there the noise was mainly from chainsaws. They might even be done with that part of the construction now. I'm already looking forward to staying at the Riviera del Sol again next January. --Mark |

But then again depending on where your hotel is at in PDC, you could be hearing noise from rowdy partiers or construction. I thnk that it is a good idea to investigate where you may want to stay at. That way there as little surprises as possible.

I normally crawl out of bed early and work from 7AM to 5PM. Construction noise on vacation is not a good thing. 50 hour work weeks is what I'm getting away from. The location seems perfect, but maybe a different hotel is in order. No hurry tho, another few months to decide...
I suspect this will not be an issue for part two of the vacation, a Tulum cabana. |

Too true
Doubt that tulum will be noisy!
By April the noise may/should be far less. They have a ton of workers there, most sleeping there, you can see their campfire at night. They try to keep the noise down till 7:30 -8:00 A.M. I guess I noticed it the day I was Ill,and I noticed all the white dust on the plants and trees, but it didn't seem to make my asthma worse.Hotel Quinto Sol does look fab. I stopped and got a brochure, about the same price with an awesome rooftop hottub.Riviera Caribe Maya is only 1 blk. away & looks cool too. Nerak/Karen will be going there in late Feb. so you can get a report. There is a lot of construction all over the No. Beach area ,on the corner of 5th Ave and 30th,and on 5th between calle 30 & 32-34 large condo bld.I did go by a place I loved the look of on 10th Ave. between calle 10 & 12 called Hacienda maria Bonita, web site using that whole title, all small letters.&o$ night in Jan,April should be a lot less. Beach club, rest, bar pool...looked so inviting walking by I asked Stogey to wait while I went in to see if I could get a brochure,Juan Pablo the receptionist offered to show me a room.If I didn't need a kitchen next year I think I would try it.Have fun!!! |

How about earplugs and an extra pillow over your head? Sounds goofy, I know, but that works to keep me from hearing my noisy toddler when I get to sleep in. Obviously he's no jackhammer, but if you've ever heard a two year old scream... If the hotel has everything else you are looking for, it would be too bad to let it go on the off chance there may be construction noise. Just a thought.

We spent 3 weeks at the Riviera del Sol in Jan. (returned 1/28)...the 1st morning the noise was quite loud but we simply closed both the sliders & put on the A/C....then we couldn't hear it at all......we have checked out many hotels but still think the location of the del Sol is the best...(largest beach & good food & drink at Mamitas)....& for several years now we have always been booking the same room which gives us 2 balcolnies & a direct view of the Sea.
In fact, before we checked out, we already booked the same room for 3 weeks in Jan.2006. Most likely all the construction will be finished by April the way they were going, so I wouldn't worry about it. Have a great time. |

Sorry we missed you
I believe that room 301,is the one we tried to book but could only have it 4 nts, then move so I opted for 307. I do love the location, and the staff is great,I just like to try new things/places. When the condos across the street start renting,it will be cool. From the looks of the speed of expansion of the number of rooms available,I'm hoping prices will be fairly stable for some time to come.
