I agree-that issue is a big chunk of Detroit's problem. (Mediocre design is their biggest issue, though).
I don't know what the costs to the nation would be, or how to manage it, but insurance/health care is a big axe hanging over so many people for the last few years.
It seems like there are lots of smart people, who if they didn't have the issue and worries of keeping their health insurance, could probably go out there and start their own businesses-which in the end, would lead to a more prosperous country.
