In the Charlotte NC area Zapata's three locations are the best for Mexican food. I can't seem to order our good ol' 'merican view of Mexican food - Tacos, enchiladas and taco salads becaus their real food is so great. The Arroz con Pollo is to die for. Mmm. Sounds like it's time for a dish and a Dos Equis or three.

I ate lunch at Esparzza's in Grapevine today. It is one of my favorites in DFW. How did the group that went pre-regatta like it? Wife and I think their margs are some of the best in area. Other great margarita is at Tupinamba's in north Dallas. We dont go downtown much.

Oh my oh my, new favorite!!!
For all you Minnesotans that are still unaware they have transformed the old Sears building at Lake St. & Chicago Ave. into something wonderful. The main floor area is called "Global Market". It's packed with little restaurants and markets consisting of diffferent foods from around the world. I just ate at what is now one of my favortite mexican restaurants there. I don't recall the name, but it's all seafood and right by a place called "West Indies Soul" which as well is great for their jerk chicken. What I had was "pescado al pastor". It was an order of fish tacos made with the maranade for al pastor and it was delicious. It's the first time in a long time that I've eaten somewhere that I can't wait to get back to.

Just read through this whole thread and now my stomach is growling! Mike and I frequently go to a Mexican restaurant here in Tampa called Vallartas. The family who owns and operates it are from Guadalajara. They serve some really tasty carnitas verdes, which is what I usually order when we eat there. YUUUM! My stomach is growling. No Mexican food tonight though ~ we're probably going to have some fresh, boiled crawfish or red beans and rice with a link of andouille sausage.
or a big bowl of pozole... |

I'm reviving this thread to share a few Yucatanean resturants I've been do in Northern California. Most food up here is Northern Mexican, but there are a few:
Woodland, CA (My hometown - LARGE Chicano population but again almost all of them are from Northern MX so I was shocked to find a Yucatanean Resturant in a strip mall by my mom's house. Cocina Maya 353 West Main St., Woodland, CA (in the Raley's Shopping center) More of a take-out joint than a real sit down resturant, with pictures of all the dishes, empahsis on the PORK! Tasty stuff - not mindblowing, but it's good for a fix. Mi Lindo Yucatan 401 Valencia St. San Francisco, CA Finally got to this place the other week and oh my god! If you miss Yucatean food and live within a 100 mile radius, you must go here - make a night of it! The Poc Chuc was amazing, and they literally had the best tortillas I'd ever had (mind you I was raised on Mexican food). The portions are huge, the salsa is hot, and everything is relatively cheap. It's true the nice waitress doesn't speak much english - so what? You'll be able to figure it out. |

Veracruz in Downey, CA
Haven't found a favorite in Houston yet, though I'm on the hunt. Villa Arcos has great taco all all types but my favorite so far have been the carne guisada Taqueria Arrandas (45 near Hobby & Bryan College) refried beans....I can just order these. Hugo's for their carnitas HEB has good carnitas too Last edited by tlegray : 03-30-2007 at 09:11 AM. |
