There is a teeny, teeny mexican restaurant here in Ohio near my house, very authentic and great atmosphere, it is so local in appearance that it almost feels like your in Mexico (if you can ignor the fact that there is snow outside). I think it's called Taqueria Rancheros.

Sounds good!
IMO the best places are the ones you would normally pass by if you didn't know you had to be there.
In other words: the low profile places were you're most likely to find the locals (and not the upscale tourist traps)

I agree, the little hole in the wall family run places always have the best food and usually their parking lot is full.

Those are cool pics! Pretty obvious you've enjoyed yourselves there!
But what's with the 'Corona Light' (in the background)?

We have a local restaurant owned by Mexicans that is the closest to Authentic Mexican food I have ever had. I usually like the tex-mex served at 'Mexican' restaurants, but authentic is always better.
In addition, the people that own it are so nice. The wife always makes me practice my Spanish and I make her practice her English. I love going there, they make you feel like family. And they have a blue Margarita called the blue tarantula that is to do die for. Do they have those in Mexico or is that where the authentic ends?

They have to keep the local Gringo's happy too. You will notice that we were drinking Negra Modelo's con limon!

IMO that's exactly it...
Nice, though, to have a place like that around.

Is the LIGHT thing typically local Gringo?
IMO 'light beer' should not be called beer at all... Either drink beer or do not drink beer! :p

I DID notice the Negra Modelo's! Good for you, eh?
(Personally I'd skip the limon in a Negra Modelo, but that's just me... )

I think that it is at least in the states. Many people drink bud light or rum
and diet coke. IMO if you going to drink beer then drink beer and don't mess around.

Limon, I can drink cerveza either way but it is very refreshing when it is hot out!

Cerveza_Dude where is the "Mexico City" restaurant in Denver? We get up there periodically, usually for our daughter's soccer games. Do you like it better than the other two you mentioned in this thread?

Manitou,

Hey, another Coloradoan!!! Mexico City is located on Larimer Street by the baseball stadium. For atmosphere and quality of food, Mexico City is good and going down town is fun. I usually go there for Sunday breakfast/brunch. If you just want some green chili that is so hot it will melt your fillings, Santiago's on 84th just west of I-25 will work but the atmosphere is lacking. On the west side of town, Los Arcos has both good food and atmosphere and on weekends they have Mariachis. Where do you go for Mexican food? I am always looking for new places to go.

Hey Teezet, looks like I have to come back to Amsterdam soon to check out that place you mention! As within the near future I will not have to work as much as I had to in the past 2 years I should start trying out mexican restaurants here in Cologne. Might start right away this week... Will let you know if I find something good!
