Reef Coco Beach - Trip Report
We got back on Sunday from a most relaxing week at Reef Coco Beach. We were able to get into an ocean front room, for the expected upgrade price of $25.00 US per night or $175 for the week. That went a long way to help make our stay pleasant. We could open the glass door and listen to the waves crash every night. You can do this from most of the other rooms but it wouldn't be as clear or as unfiltered. We woke early most mornings, had breakfast at the buffet (nothing to brag about), we would soak up some sun on the beach then take a late morning/early afternoon nap in our room, go back out for some more sun and then get ready for dinner.
The beach: Magnificent! Great sand, lots of beach chairs, a sand volleyball court that always seemed to have players, a reef off the beach (it was sort of dead but you still see lots of fish) and bar service. The Food: Breakfast; great breads, ok potatoes, not so bad meat, some unidentifyable side dishes and omletes to order. Lunch; we ate lunch at the snack bar most days. Pizza was ok, burgers and hot dogs were great, chips and salsa and guac was good too. We also tried the ribs, not so bad and the chicken, as good as Boston Market. Dinner; we didn't eat at the buffet but tried the Italian and the Latino restaurants. We weren't impressed with either, but the service at all were out of this world. The Drinks: plentiful and lots of choices. In my case, I like rum and coke, but unless you specified, they used a Jamacian rum which over time will give you the runs. The Room: always clean and fresh towels daily what more could you ask for. Oh yeah, ask for a do not disturb sign if you are nappers. They also bring you bottled water twice a day if you want it but it costs a $1 a bottle. You can go into town and get a gallon jug of the same bottled water for $1.70 US. The Pool: one word, wonderful. A little cold but very refreshing and again, plenty of chairs to lounge in. The entertainment: its not award winning but its something to do in the evening. I have always loved to watch dancing so I liked it. Maria was the best. She always had a smile on her face and brought the dances alive. Activities: stretching classes, step aerobics, water aerobics, bingo, misc pool games, volleyball and the like. The activities staff was great. I especially like Christine from Winnepeg. I wish when I was younger I would have done something like they are doing. It beats working at Burger King for the summer. They have room and board, get paid weekly and get to eat and drink all they want. Plus they have amazing tans and sort of cute outfits. Hope to have it dropped off this afternoon and ready for pickup this evening or tomorrow. Will post some pics on my webshots site. I will post the link when i get them posted.

Hi there. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. We are going to the Reef Coco Beach in November. A couple questions for you - does the resort use wristbands? I've seen a lot on this site lately about the wristbands. We stayed at the Gala in 2003 and didn't have to wear them there. Also, do you have a map of the resort or know where I can get one? I'd like to see the layout.
Thanx for your help! Looking forward to seeing your pictures. Cyndi |

I'm totally off my game, but I finally remembered to bring the pics so I can load them.
Yes, there are wrist bands and I don't think they get into your way too much. I've never been a fan of them, but it really didn't bother me. Resort map, I'm sure I have one, but the resort is easy to navigate. The resort is in the shape of a U with the tips being closest to the ocean and having the only ocean FRONT rooms. All the other rooms have a view or partial view of the ocean and/or overlook the pool. You can't go wrong with any room. My husband was able to hook us up with an ocean front room and we loved it. Back to the visual of the resort. Think U, at the center of the U is the pool and on the 2nd floor in the center of the U you will find the check in desk, a bar and the room where they do they nightly shows. Off to the left side of the U is a place where you can book your tours. Also on the left side of the U is where you get your towels, the snack bar and towards to ocean end is where you will find all the restaurants. The buffet is on the ground floor and the Italian & Latino restaurants are on the second floor. Also on the second floor of the left side of the U ocean front is the sport bar. On the right side of the U at the ocean end is the massage area (complete with two massage tables and open to the beach). On the beach on the right side is the non motorized water craft reserve center, where you can put your name in for kayaks or snorkel equipment or sign up for a snorkel excursion. I think I've covered most everything, but if you have any other quesitons, feel free to email. |

Ouch! Who just picked at my brain?
Funjet books the Reef Coco Beach, Apple does not (and I always wondered why too since they book the Reef Club). So does United Vacations and they serve your area with non stops out of Dulles Kevin. |

I was asking about Reef Coco because I want to have a couple AI's that seem to be of decent qualitythat are fairly close to downtown Playa for the two teenaged kids and I next summer. Decent beach is a must for me. So far, Tucan is on the list unless it is a real letdown this year. I think I might add Reef Coco to the list as well. Have to start my research somewhere. I have hopes that I can do a decent AI with air for the three of us for around $3K for 7 nights. Reef Coco might do the trick. |
