When we were at the Palladium (2X) there was a very heavy Canadian presence. There are some Trip Rpeorts on my site from Canadians.

I have been all over the world at different resorts and find that it is difficult to find a place where English is not spoken by at least most of the guests. Seems the rest of the world is much better about learning English than we are in learning other languages.

We were at the viva maya for 2 weeks in december 04 and there wasn't very many english speaking guests. We were told by some of the locals in town that this is a foreign owned resort and the europeans patronize it because of this. They also told us to stay at the myan palace because it is mexican owned.

We were at the Lindo and yeah I would say we were not the majority, but not such as to make us feel like we were the only americans there. It just is not a problem. Take my word for it there is such a mix out there, you wont have a problem finding someone to chat with.

Why can't you talk to each other? I think it sounds like you have a problem BEFORE you even meet people if you don't give others a chance. Open your eyes, don't be so ignorant and enjoy yourself wherever you go. Your going on holiday - don't worry about the little things and make the effort to be nice - believe me you can't go wrong.
If you have had a bad experience before then fine but you can't label ALL Europeans as the same just like I wouldn't label ALL Americans the same, or Germans the same and so on. |

David and I met a gal from London last year at the Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal. At first I had a helluva time understanding HER, and she was speaking English!!!
It's true that many Europeans speak very good English (better than some born and bred Americans I've met, I'm afraid to say). I think it's great to be in a place where I can hear other languages being spoken. Makes me feel like I'm in a big melting pot. Don't limit yourself unnecessarily.... You could be missing out on meeting someone from "across the Big Pond" who's interesting and a lot of fun. And who knows.... maybe they'll think the same of you!! |
