I have fished from big boats & pangas, the skippers are equally good or bad, good fisherman are born, not made, so find one that's been around awhile with a good reputation & you're set. Don't know what will be running in July but it seems the warmer the water the better the fishing. Bottom fishing is fun & the fish are better eating than marlin or sailfish (in my Opinion)The bottled water in the boats is fine, rinse it off in the ocean & drink away. You can have your fish prepared at the Playa Maya Hotel for a minimal fee. if you get several fish, share with some of the folks living in Playa, (bell hops, maids, receptionists & of course----James, Anna, & others on this board)
