Travel with other Families

We are thinking of taking a vacation with another family. We are both families of five each with three kids about the same ages.

Would you think we are better off trying to find a house with five bedrroms (is there such a thing in PDC?) or would two condo's be best?

Just looking for suggestions.

I know the answer to your question:
For the last 4 years, we always travel w/another family, who have kids the same ages as our's. And we also have traveled w/family members, too. The best bet, I hate to admit it, is to stay at an AI resort; mainly because everyone can do their own thing, eat when they want, the kids have activities they can do or not, everyone's happy. It can be a little tricky traveling w/so many different personalities. But, if there is plenty for everyone to do seperately or together, it seems to work. (However, if it's just my family, we always stay at a condo or a regular hotel.)
It can be alot of fun traveling w/another family, but you have to make sure that everyone has plenty of choice and can do it whenever they feel like it.
Good Luck!

If you don't want to do the AI, I would go with 2 condos, that way you'll get some private time with your own families. It can be fun to go with another family, but I think everybody needs their own space.

I think any "house" you find will be a condo.

We had friends who took family to Akumal last year and rented a Villa. They loved it as they had plenty of space and privacy when they needed it. Drove in to Playa a few nights and then had a cook in on others. The pictures of where they stayed were beautiful!

We rented a 5 bedroom house in playcar 1 for a week. I think it was $2500 for the week, if divided out it it's not that bad. It was two blocks for the ocean. The walk to PDC took about 10 minutes. This was the first week in Jan, I dont know if the price goes down later in the year.

Whenever we vacation with family... either mine or my husbands... each family unit gets their own condo/cabin/villa. We wouldn't do it any other way. We love our families to death... however, as has already been mentioned, it's important for everyone to have their own space for private downtime.

I can understand the private time needed. Heck, I need that from my own family on vacation, not to mention some one elses.

The one disadvantage to having seperate condos is if the adults want to have some beverages together at night once the kids are in bed, we can't do that if we have seperate condos. If we shared a house the adults could sit at the pool or inside while the kids were in the bedrooms sleeping.

I did see something the other night about two houses right next to each other that could be rented seperate or together. The houses almost looked like townhouses side by side with a shared wall. It also seemed as if they shared a pool and they are right on the beach in Playacar. I think I will try and get more information about this place since it seems like it would be the best of all worlds for us.

Thanks for you suggestions.

I'd contact Heather and see what's available through Playa.Info since not all the properties are listed on the site. They may just have something that fits your needs perfectly.

Already planned on doing that. Playa.info is always my first choice. In talking to Anna previously, I think playa.info can book most rentals so if I know which place I want I can start Heather in the right direction.

I've seen several condo configurations that look as thought you wouldn't have that problem. Definitely contact Heather here to see what she might have.
