Is Sunset Fishermens That Bad???
My family has a week booked, through an RCI timeshare exchange, at the Sunset Fishermens Village Resort in Playacar. This will be our first trip to the PDC area. I am reading ALL kinds of horror stories about the place on another website. We have no intention of buying a timeshare there. Can anyone reassure me that I'm not walking into a nightmare
!!! I have read that the service is bad and so is the food. I hope I'm not taking my family on a lousy vacation. Any information, from people that have actually stayed there recently (not just there for the timeshare presentation) would be greatly appreciated .Thank you, Greg |

You'll have a great time
It won't be a nightmare. Forget about everything you've read. Start your vacation in a positive way. It's a very nice resort. It's lost some of it's beach recently. That's about as negative as I can get about the place. I walked through it 2 weeks ago and it looked very nice. Your close to town in one of the nicest areas of Playacar and as a bonus your right next door to Villa Flamboyan. Everyone of you first timer's, listen. There is so much more to Play Del Carmen than just the resort. You'll see why when you get there.

We stayed at the Mayan Palace in Feb., for every good review on it there were 4-5 bad reviews, turned out most of the people making the noise hadn't even stayed there but had bad feeling toward the place for whatever reason. The fact is these resorts won't be in bisiness or stay in business if the stuff reported is anywhere close to true.
The best meal we ate while in PDC, was at the fishermens village, we toured the place & other than the fact the surf is right at the swimming pool, it looked good to me. Everyone there looked very happy (with the exception of the folks being worked over by the timeshare sharks) Go have fun & write a report on what you saw, did,& think of the place when you get back. |

We've stayed at Fisherman's twice, and loved it. Our family owns a timeshare there so we did not do the AI plan, so I can't help you food-wise (we only ate a couple of breakfasts there). It's a great location and we'll be back.

It's really convenient to town- a leisurely 15 minute walk through a nice neighborhood complete with a couple of small Mayan ruins. We walked in to town at least once a day or in the evening (we had a car for day trips up and down the coast but didn't usually drive into town) and would grab a cab home after having a few too many margaritas or mojitos. MAKE SURE you get into town and explore- there are tons of great restaurants and bars.
The staff at Fisherman's was friendly and the units are nice. I have a trip report buried somewhere (from December) in the General Topics forum. |

We have a timeshare there, the place is pretty, units we've stayed in are beautiful marble throughout & very spacious, right on the beach! Can't tell you about the food because we don't go AI there, like to discover new spots in town. Enjoy & have a great trip!!

We've stayed there and loved it. Can't tell you about the food. When we went, you didn't have to A-I. That's the only complaint I have is that they are now A-I. I've tried to swap into FV since and can't ever get the week I want...so obviously we liked it and would go back. Don't get stuck eating there!!!! Eat out and read about places on this site before you go and consider the Playa Deal Card.

We own at Fishermans and were also worried about reviews we saw this year, but we had a great time there last year. Staff was great, it wasn't too crowded and the location is fantastic. The dinners are so-so. I'd eat breakfast and lunch there when you're not out touring, and go to town for dinner.
We rent a car and travel a lot in the area and spend most of our mealtimes in Playa. We liked it so much that we'll be going back in April. When are you going? |
