Amazing pics. A must see!
Wow how wonderful to look at your wedding pics and sideshow. They were beautiful.
I am so excited now. They were a delight to look at and thank you for sharing those with all of us. I still cannot believe that I we will be flying out to the Tucan in just under 6 weeks and getting married. Have you any advice for any of us awaiting brides? All the happiness for your future together! |

Hmm..advice for brides -
Be proactive with what you want. Mariela is very accomodating, but if you aren't specific about how you want something to look, she'll fill in the blanks on her own. I was fairly lax about overseeing preparations for our cocktail party - the lighting issue, and the food was just ok. We took pictures before the ceremony..~1:30pm, to make the most of the natural light. If I had to do it again, I would have started even earlier, and maybe even tried to have the cocktail party early while the sun was out- at the beach. **Number 1 piece of advice ** don't forget to enjoy yourself! It all flew by so fast!! Take care, usagi |

Yes, Greg and I did go on after Mexico. We had 2 days at home and then went on to Hawaii. We stayed there, 5 days each on visited Kauai, Maui and the Big Island...but that review is for a different discussion board! (it was fabulous though!) Marissa |

Wow, sounds nice
A week in Playa and then fifteen days in Hawaiil... what a dream wedding! I'll be attending a wedding at the Tucan in July. I know they give you two dinner reservation tickets (or something like that) when we check in. We'll be eating at the Italian restaurant and the steak house as part of the rehersal dinner and wedding. I'm wondering if those count as our restaurant visits, or if we still get to eat at the restaurants on the other nights?

My restaurant pick - The Buffet all the way!
As for the wedding dinner - that should not count as one of your "a la carte" allocations. The wedding couple pays for that dinner as a part of their wedding package. We didn't do a rehearsal dinner, so I can't help you there.
A couple tips: 1) They take your reservations at guest services (triangle kiosk in lobby), where they take your room number to track how many meals you've booked. There are no tickets. You can put yourself on the waiting list after you've reserved your a la cartes. I've heard that if you don't mind eating later, and are a small group, you get in easily. We weren't successful with the wait list, but I think it was b/c we tried to wait list a group of 10! Couples may have better luck. Check for cancellations at ~ 6pm day of. 2) To be honest, my family had a chance to eat at the steakhouse, Japanese, Seafood and Italian restaurants. The steakhouse was good - comparable to the Keg (but be sure to get a rare steak). The Japanese teppan was fun and tasty...they gave sushi as an appetizer which was so-so. The seafood and Italian places were sub par. By far, the food in the buffet was the best! Excellent choices. If I went back, I wouldn't even bother with the a la cartes. Maybe just the Japanese - since it is a crowd pleaser. I can get a good steak anywhere. But the buffet had authentic Mexican dishes, fish, carved beef, chicken and even a lobster night (Thursdays, I think). I've raved about the fajitas on other messages - but they were amazing! Don't feel bad if you don't get more reservations. The buffet was the best place to eat on the property. Have fun! |

Hi Jersey girl -
I'm sure wherever you pick, you'll have a great time. We really loved the Tucan, just because it felt like you were discovering something new whenever you walked around the grounds. It is big, but the jungle makes the walk so interesting! It was never busy, you always got a beach chair/umbrella and the staff were incredibly accomodating. I hope you post, once you decide on your location. Good luck! usagi |
