Yes... and a search on the specific service you use should provide additional info.

I use Cingular from the USA. I called ahead of time, and had them set my phone up to roam in Mexico. It only costs $79 cents per minute, plus an extra fee of $2 per month on your monthly statement.

T-Mobile works great in PDC. Make sure you have them turn on internation service before leaving.

According to Nextel here, rates within Mexico are $1.99/minute. Kind of steep, but I can see the value of being able to take your phone with you and still makes calls. When I go to Rosarito Beach and Ensenada my Direct Connect works at no extra cost, but I can't make calls.

There are public phones everywhere too. As everywhere else in Latin America, Playa has a number of phone service joints, where you can make international calls easily and inexpensively, so you can use your cellular phone for incoming calls only.

Cingular worked fine in December if you call them and let them know. But it is cheaper to use call center.

T-Mobile worked great for me also, once they added the International Service option. Don't believe there was a charge for doing so. Incoming calls reached me just fine but you couldn't answer selectively because the Caller-ID feature is disabled down there. Voicemail also operated differently... had to dial my cell phone number to retrieve it.

Thanks oklahomajack, Jimmy & Jacko for the info re: cell phones. I will check out Verison's website.

Also, Jimmy, where are you from in Minnesota? I live in Altanta but grew up in Minnesota. I was from Burnsville.
