About 2 years ago, I went to the store to buy a CD-Changer. Ended up getting a turntable. I asked the salesman for a pre-amp, and he didn't know what I was talking about.

Of course I should have said that Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980; didn't take office until 1981, actually. But close enough for jazz!

Seems like there must be some sort of seminal event in personal computing around or close to 1980, as well, but don't know what that is. Maybe the compuer geeks out there can tell us if, for example, the Commodore 64K came out then or whatever?

Actually U2's recording career, if not the band itself, is 25 this year. Boy was released in 1980.

Hewlett Packard released their first personal computer in 1980.... Saddam Hussein was selected president of Iraq.... Chelsea Clinton was born....

How about the 25th anniversary of certain movies (this might make you feel even older than the records did):

Empire Strikes Back
Raging Bull
Coal Miner's Daughter
Ordinary People
Caddyshack
The Blues Brothers

Okay, now that is kinda' creepy....never seen Ordinary People, or Raging Bull....is it worth the rental? I know it is boxing or something but, Raging Bull sounds like a Tarantino movie.

My oldest son will be 25 in 2005. He was born the day John Lennon was shot.

Didn't Studio 54 get busted and shut down in 1980?

This is off the topic of what's 25 years old a bit, but I tell you what, I can vividly remember my father going on a rant one weekend when he came to pick me up and stopped at the same old local gas station and was outraged by the fact that gas had skyrocketed from 35 to 47 cents a gallon. No joke. I remember those figures exactly.

That's a fair stretch older than 1980, I'll tell ya!

I'll try to scrounge up some sort of wireless credit card machine or something. (They have those now, you know.)

And on that note, I'm off!

Oh, I'll be the one wearing my avatar on my back, btw...
