Gave myself a bit of a shock the other day when I put on Talking Heads' excelente Remain in Light and realized that it was a quarter of a century old this year! Thought I'd throw out the issue to the forum and see what else turns 25 in 2005.

I remember those incidents (2 of them most unfortunate, of course), and of course Reagan took office then, too. But I was really thinking of stuff that can be said to have an age. Now MTV -- there you go!!!

The Walkman? From the look of what I see here, it's at least close. Great material there, and especially great natsukashii photos of all sorts of equipment and advertising. Also try this Sony history page for more of the same. But looks like it might officially be 79 rather than 80, although if the first ones were sold in 80 (or made it to the West in 80), that would be good to know. Where's the forum goddess when you need her, anyway?!?

Steve, I have one of the original Walkman's. I'm betting that if I try I might even be able to find the original demo tape they came with. One side had an F-18(?) fly-by on it and the other was a Formula 1 race car if I remember correctly
