[quote=MN Annie]I'm reading "Confessions of a Shopaholic" right now. I started in on the beach a few days ago. It's fun reading.

I've been wanting to read this! Thanks for the reminder!

"Touist in the Yucatan" good entertainment!

Yes, its a fun read, not the great American novel but a good thriller for a day at the beach. A lot of the book takes place at Coba which was neat for me as that is one of my favorite ruine sites. Playa even is breifly visited, but it was the Playa of 20 years ago before all the gringos showed up and ruined it! the author knows the Yucatan. Has anyone read "House of Sky"?

Reading is my dearest passion, and I finish at least a few books per week. Down here, I read whatever I can get my hands on, since English language books aren't always easy to come by. I take charity, so anyone willing to leave their castoffs here in Playa, just let me know!! Thanks to Mary and her mom Barb, who just left me a bagful when we met at the ****** Playa.info peep meet and greet.

I just finished Augusten Burroughs' latest book, Magical Thinking. (thanks for that, Ami) It was good, kind of like a poor man's David Sedaris, who makes me laugh out loud. A good beach read for women is Laurie Notaro. My favorite of her "true" essays is Idiot Girls Action Adventure Club. Her antics reminded me so much of myself and my nutty friends.

I also loved Autobiography of a Fat Bride... she has a new one coming out in July: We Thought You Would Be Prettier... whoda thunk low self esteem inducing topics could be so darned funny?

I enjoy reading. I think these may be good beach/vacation reads

If you like spy novels,The Company: A Novel of the CIA by Robert Littell was a good read. For biography I enjoyed Savage Beauty by Nancy Milford - it is a biography of Edna St. Vincent Millay. History..., mmmm Undaunted Courage: Merriweather Lewis, Thomas Jefferson and the Opening of the American West by Stephn Ambrose (even though there was that little plagiarism problem a while back) is a good read.

Anything by Tom *******. I took Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates on vacation to the Outer Banks with me and I just love the way that man writes. Also, to ******* benefit, he does an annual stint as the judge at the Spam Sculpture contest in Seattle .

For something a little lighter and, perhaps appropriate for Playa we have Exhibtionism for the Shy: Show Off, Dress Up and Talk Hot by Carol Queen.

I'm reading Da Vinci Code right now (in Espanol to boot) and it's addictive! Will have to read some of his other books.

On this vacation I read:

'Black Water' by T.J. MacGregor

and

'The Moon Pool' by Max McCoy

both light reading, perfect vacation books- the latter is especially good as it is a murder mystery about cave divers.

Also I would recommend anything by John Irving or Wally Lamb...Da Vinci Code was a page turner....PAtricia Cornwell is okay....and the Poisonwood Bible.
