Crocodile adventure??

Hi!

My boyfriend and I are heading down there in 49 days! This will be our first visit - we are VERY excited. I already know that we want to do the Sea to Cenote tour after reading everything posted about it! I am a biologist and I would REALLY like to do the Crocodile night tour down at Sian Ka'an and I have this e-mail address (sian (at) cancun.com.mx) <--trying to follow the rules for it but the e-mail just bounces back to me. Any chance anyone on here knows a different way to get in touch with the people who run that? Also, I KNOW I saw something about an island made of plastic bottles and I tried to find more information about it and I can't - help! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Can't help on the crocodile front, but the bottle island is near Puerto Aventuras, and is part of the Fat Cat tour.

That would be Richie Sowa's Spiral Island --- click here for a previous thread on this. A search on "spiral island" or "richie" should yield additional threads on this topic as well.

Ah...Spiral Island...that little piece of information helps! Searching for "plastic bottle island" was getting me NOWHERE. What an interesting sounding guy! I will figure out a way to get in touch with those crocodile people if it kills me - I want to catch and tag crocodiles!

I don't know if it will be nearly as exciting, but you might want to check the website for Crococun (it's a mini petting zoo, dedicated to the rehabilitation and propogation of crocodiles and other native reptile species) to see if they offer any "hands-on" adult-oriented programs. Or maybe someone there could point you in the right direction?

HF, you may find the Centro Ecologico Akumal very interesting as well, no crocs there but plenty of turtle research

That sounds like a very cool organization - I'll definitely check it out when I am there. My boyfriend is going to be thrilled I'm sure - crocodiles AND sea turtles!

You can get up close and personal view of Richie's Island on the Fat Cat Tour.

maybe the CEA can help you with a valid e-address for the amigos de sian ka'an. Could be the site hasn't been updated recently and the address has changed.
fyi, CEA generally has a "wish list" of biologist type stuff... good people, no $$$

Not crocs or turtles... however, as a biologist you may be interested in the Punta Laguna Spider Monkey Reserve. I've never been, however, it's on my list of places to visit. For more info about the reserve click here. Also locogringo.com did a spotlight article about Punta Laguna Spider Monkey Reserve that you might enjoy reading. A search on google will also yield additional info about the reserve.

Coba' Crocs

We noticed a sign at the lake adjacent to the Coba' ruins parking lot regarding crocs. Apparently the locals feed them and will do so for a small fee to bring them up close and personal for you.

Inasmuch as we have numerous alligators practically in our backyard, I passed on the "view the crocs" opportunity......
