can you tell me the difference between a junior suite and a standard room...the junior suite is $700 more....that seems excessive... thanks...

also, concerned about the food, is it just the nitpickers that dont like the food?

You can possibly still get an "ocean view" room. Simply put your request in about a week before you leave and ask for "any room between 1 and 12". They all face the pools and the ocean. I say "ocean view" because there are palm trees in the way and also the ocean is past the pools and the beach so it's tough to see it from most rooms. They're still the best rooms if'n you ask me. There are no oceanfront rooms at the Barcelo at all.

Don't spend the money to upgrade to a junior suite unless you have it and don't mind spending it. The Barcelo does charge quite a bit more for their jr. suites and no, it's not really worth it for a little extra space and a couch.

Oh, and the food? Nitpickers. :p The food is plenty fine. If you can't find something you like, you wouldn't find it at another hotel either. There are almost TOO many choices of things to eat.

Apple books the Beach side of the resort, buildings 1, 2 and 3. They're all fine...I personally like 2 because it's right in front of the Beach side pool but have stayed in 3 too. 3 is right on the main walkway that leads to the theater so 3 is smack dab in the middle of everything. I also don't like the ground floor and REALLY like the 3rd floor because I don't want any high heels (or kiddies ) stomping on the tile floor over my head. If you don't mind the walk up the stairs when coming from the pool/beach, that would be good for you as well. The elevators are located at the other end of the building so when you're headed to the lobby, theater or the restaurants, you can take them up and down.

I'd ask for building 2 or 3, 3rd floor, any room between 1 and 12. Can't get better than that.

Do you have the e mail address to request a room? If not, let me know and I'll PM it to you.

In September we can book pretty much wherever we like. We choose building #3, 3rd floor, ocean-side. looks like only one week this year. Two weeks would be a bit hard to spend away from our girls, which will be 3 years and 11 months during the trip.
