tanning bed nightmare......
i thought to post this in the off topic forum, but decided that it was important........
first, i'm not seeking any medical type advise, already been to the doc....i'm just venting....... did some research, and i found that i really wanted a base tan before we go, didn't want to fry, and i'm sure daniel would just love the thought of layin' on a beach for 8 hours.......so i get myself down to the tanning salon......... i must be the one in 1,000 women who is actually allergic to the rays......i have tanned for years the old fashioned way.... with no problems with the sun, but i have spent the last week with various bumps, some of them actual blisters........a few of them, like tiny little burns, all over my body....and i mean ALL OVER MY BODY......so i'm in a panic, not only will i be the white chick, i'll have what looks like is the chicken pox, ......however, my doc. says no worries, and i should be fine by our honeymoon........... dang...........and i tell you, i'm getting some color, other people can see it, in fact my friend thought we had been already, because of the color i was getting, but the hives were NOT happenin'......... i tried everything, to no avail..........so i guess the idea of having a base tan is out........i hope i don't burn.......it's still just a bit cool to be layin' out here in houston......... |

Try Aloe
Get an aloe plant or aloe gel (not the lotion get the real stuff) The plant is really the best. I use it for all sorts of skin related problems even used it when the air bag exploded in my face when I was rear ended. No scars and healed quickly.

Aloe is good for a lot of things.Tesa,I was laying out on my deck in Jan. soon after we came home, in shorts & my tankini top!
45 degrees and not much wind, made a wind break by opening up a large cardboard box and stapled it to railing of deck on north side. Lately it's just been to cold and too much snow, but surely it must be getting warmer in Houston!!![]() |

As you know, the fake-bake tans are pretty much strictly for color, not as a base tan (i.e. protection).
I am verrrrry fair, and most year by late August, my tan is perhaps a dark beige with tons of freckles. I have matured enough over the past 46 years to not give a damn how I look as far as "oh, no... I'm sooooo pale!!". After having a couple of skin cancer surgeries on my face, protecting myself while having fun in the sun is my primary concern. When I do go Playa, I put waterproof 50 SPF on my feet, and 30 SPF everywhere else, taking care to get all the spots we tend to miss (tops of the ears, the little chubb-pudge spot at the front of my armpits). I then go out in the sun all day long and am FINE!!! Yes, I get color, and I like the look (someday all my freckles will merge), but I like more the fact that thanks to today's technology, sunblocks are available that allow a fair-skinned person like me to enjoy the sun/water of Playa all day long and not suffer consequences later on. And yes, I do get the usual Rudolph nose (which is now peeling), and the sides of my thighs near my suitline usually get red, but there just isn't any excuse for getting a bad sunburn..... if it happens, it's due to laziness or stupidity (IMHO). |

i was really hoping to just get a bit of color before we left, i have lost almost 30 pounds and am actually going to wear a bikini, so i just thought what the heck, i'll do it, a friend tans every day, and she looks great, with no chicken pox.....
however, i know when i'm defeated, but it's my honeymoon, and i really wanted to look beautiful for daniel, i wanted him to be proud to be with me, not that a tan will do that, i'm not that vain, it's just something i wanted........i wanted him to see me in that suit, which he hasn't yet, i'm saving that for playa!!!, he see's the weight loss, but has no idea i'm trying to pull off a bikini, so i wanted to be tan...........i know, it's silly............ actually, even after just 48 hours off the beds, and 1/2 a bottle of calamine, i'm looking a bit better.......but it still looks bad, will try the aloe, as that can never hurt................ thank god i discovered it now, instead of waiting 'till closer to the wedding to give tanning a try............in fact, my friend is the one who said i should go now, instead of waiting, in case something happened.............phew........... just pray that i heal before april 20th...... and yes, i have decided to try and lay out, it is getting warmer here by the day, but the doctor said to stay out of regular sun 'till i'm healed, as it might agrivate (sp) the condition.......... he thinks by next week i should be able to get back in the real sun............. |

As usual I forgot to sign in. So the above reply should be attributed to me.
But I'd really like to know how long did you tan. Because if you haven't tanned much before, ultra violet light can be as dangerous as sun light. It is the unlra violet radiation in the sun rays that does give you the sun burn. |

Tesa:
Congrats on losing those 30 lbs.!!!!! Good work!! As far as trying to look beautiful for your hubby-to-be, don't you know that he already thinks you're beautiful, tan or no tan??? Go check out my gallery pics. I'm short (5'3"), a bit chunky, totally artificial hair (permed and highlighted as my natural is baby fine, dark blonde, and straight as a board!), and as I mentioned above, my goal on the beach isn't to tan... my goal is to have fun and not fry! And ya know what?? David makes me feel like I'm one of the most beautiful and desirable women walking on this earth. I know it's not true, but as long as he can fool himself into thinking so, that's all that matters!! It's YOU who is beautiful, Tesa... not the shade of your skin. Believe me, once he sees you in that bikini, he's not gonna even notice that you're not tanned!!! You'll be glowing all over from being a newlywed!!!!! |

pssssst I have been using tanning wipes, and I really like them.
(I have tried all the self/fake tan lotions, even the spray on mystic tans ) I really like these because they dont look streaky or orangey....of course you still need to use lots or sunscreen because this is not like having a real tan. I am really fair/blonde.....and I just dont have the time to build up a real tan and I was warned by my Derma doc not to do the tanning beds. |

And as far as you and David, it is very obvious you are the only woman he has eyes for! Like I said in another post, ya'll are a great couple and we had fun hangin' out with ya'll Friday nite Tesa, how long did you tan?? I am dark complected, and I only tan a few minutes whenever I start. Now I tan 10 minutes(in a 10 min bed) almost every day, no problem. Also, did you use any of the tanning creams they sell, cause self-tanning stuff makes me get little bumps. I think something in it reacts badly w/my skin???? So, I was wonderin' about that as well as the tanning bed itself I hope you feel better soon, and Karen's right, your hubby will think you are gorgeous no matter what ![]() |

Tess, don't worry about the bumps.. I get them too. They are caused by too much exposure at once. Be sure to wear a sunscreen when in Playa. They take a few days to go away. When you get to Playa go to a pharmacy and get you some Synalar Simple cream. My cousin had me get some for her and she said it was great for burns. I tried it on my sun rash and it works like a charm.
I can have a great tan and still break out in the rash if I am in the sun too long, and I adore the sun.. Get the cream.. it's great! |

you all are so nice...........i know he loves me, but it's ME that wanted to look like i had been in that bikini for my whole life....hehe
my tummy hasn't seen the light of day for many a year..........i just wanted our honeymoon to be as wonderful as i have always hoped............ i started out in a 20 min. bed, but going just 10 min..........and from the first day, i have had this "rash".........i started out using the indoor products, but since then i have tried different things to rule out.......so i stopped the products, then, they cleaned the beds with pure water before i came in, thinking it was the cleaning stuff......no deal.........then they let me go in the stand up bed, why, i don't know, she was just trying to find a way for me to tan, and not get the hives..........i don't think i can do it........... as of this a.m., the rash looks much better, in fact, only still visable in a few places, and THANK GOD.......it's not really on my face at all........... i seem to be having a bit of trouble getting my $$ back, as they now want me to try a "spray on tan" instead .......... i'm waiting to talk to the owner today...........i don't think a spray on tan is what i'm looking for, and i hear it fades onto your clothes sometimes....... oh well, i have so much else to be happy about........i was sad in the beginning, becuase i had visions of me being a bronze beauty, but hey, a tan ain't everything.... overall. i did get a wee bit of color, so maby it will help a bit, and besides, i still have right a 4 weeks or so to try and get some the old fashioned way....which is more fun anyway..........tunes, cold beer, my girlfriends layin' out in the back yard....... god bless texas........today it should be nice and warm, but my doc. said to stay out of even real sun 'till i'm 100% healed..........but at this rate, maby this weekend i can try.......... all is well.......... the owner asked me if after it cleared up, if i would try again before i get my $$ back.......i'm not sure if i want to go thru that again.........it was somewhat painful, as well as ugly......... thank you all so much for helping me see how silly i was to be so upset........i just want every thing to be perfect........... i have several new outfits that he hasn't seen yet, i'm actually very excited about this........ have a great day all, and will let you know if i get my money back without a fight....... thank you again so much!!! |

I did the spray on tan and did not like it...
My two cents is DON'T DO IT till you test it on your skin.....it gave me a rash just like the one you have now. (it also smelled funny too even though they said it did not have a scent) It does streak in a few places and it shows up darker in any nooks and crannies you may have.....it does last about a week and tends to look "ok" after about 3 days. |
