Iberostar Tucan to Xel-Ha

Hi
Can anyone tell me the best way to Xel-Ha from the Iberostar Tucan, there will be 6 of us travelling on a Monday and we need to be there for 8.45am as the kids are doing the Dophin swim at 10.00am and you have to be there an hour before time. How long will it take to get there?
Many thanks
Kim

Poplarcons,

Your post does not say if you have a rental car or if your getting a cab etc. I don't think that it would take more than an hour to get there. Probably more like a half of an hour with a rental car or taxi. If your going to the transportation center and getting on a bus, plan on an hour. If your getting transportation through your hotel, I think that the trip is an hour roughly.

Have Fun!

Easiest take a taxi. Cost approximately $310 pesos each way. Transit time approximately 45 minutes or less.

Depends on the driver. Most of the drivers are hell bent to get there as fast as possible never mind the danger of giving the passengers a heart attack. You get used to it though. Tequila helps...

I actually think that is part of the fun of being in Playa. Another adventure is riding the ancient buses that the locals ride with worn out shocks and weak brakes. Really makes you feel alive!

Stayed at the Tucan in June and took a taxi to Xel-ha so that we could come and go as we pleased. The Tucan will call you a taxi from the lobby area (there are several waiting). Make sure you check the price board in the lobby that tells how much the taxi ride should cost from the Tucan to several destinations (Xel-ha) included. As Denisea stated it is approx. 45 mins from the Tucan to Xel-ha. The drivers might try to up the price a little. Not sure if you made your dolphin swim reservations already but you might want to reserve in advance - we booked on line - and they were booked by 8:30 when we arrived for the day. We purchased the all inclusive and found it definitely worth the price - eat and drink all day and it inlcuded all activities except for dolphin swim. We did not leave until they closed and caught a taxi right out front back to the Tucan. Enjoy!!!!

We stayed at the Quetzal in 2003, the other half of the same resort. We did much the same as pmb stated. They'll help you at the front lobby and there is a price board there. There were six of us so they transported us in a van that they called from the lobby. Don't remember the price but recall that split six ways it was reasonable. We also had the same van there to pick us up, at a pre arranged time, to take up back to PDC. We like snorkling and Xel-ha was great for that!

We had two different prices for the trip to Xel-ha -- we did not check out the board at the lobby desk that posts the costs of taxis to certain destinations. On the way there we paid $34 USD and on the way back $35 USD. The board showed $30 USD. Taxi into Playa del Carmen was on $4 USD.

Hello all

Many thanks for all your replies. I didn't know whether we would need 2 taxis with there being 6 of us but if we can get a van that is great. We have already booked the dolphin swims and the all inclusive package for Xel-Ha online. Once again thank you very much.

Best wishes Kim

Thanks for the Xel-Ha link, Denisea..... it took me a while to find the spot to change it from Spanish to English though!!

Has anyone had recent experience with the all-inclusive ticket at Xel-Ha?? The site info reads in part: "Meals and beverages in any of our restaurants, tips and taxes are also included." Does this mean quantities are unlimited? Or is it one of those deals where they give you coupons for, say, one hamburger, one taco, one soda, and two beers?? Would definitely be a factor in whether or not we do the all-inclusive ticket.

We did all-inclusive and no one limited our consumption, until we ran the bar out of tequila. Fortunately, there is more than one bar.

We arrived early and immediately hit the breakfast buffet. It was not fancy, but a decent selection of the usual eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, yogurt, juice, etc. Then we got our snorkel gear and towels and headed for the water. When the tour buses started arriving we found lounge chairs by the bar and people watched for a while. Ice cream was consumed. Mid afternoon we headed for the restaurant and ordered off the menu. More beer consumed. They recorded the number on our wristband, so maybe if we had tried to eat again, they might not have let us, but we had all the food and drink we needed. We ended up staying the whole day and we felt we definitely got our money's worth with the AI. Hope this helps!
